Hello. I am new to the forum....been lurking for the past few months since I got my 1997 Collector's Edition. Been able to find everything I need except a good photo of the lower metal splash shield that shields the belts at the front of the engine. Mine was missing, so I ordered a new one from Toyota with bolts.
I cannot find a photo of how it mounts....looks like it will interfere with the steering stabilizer??
Can anyone direct me to a photo or illustration? Thank you.

Just flip it 180º

The notch goes where the stabilizer mounts to the cross member. The rolled edge needs to be pointed DOWN.

I don't have one of these either. Would it be a good idea to replace it? What purpose does it serve?

Guess I'll send Beno an email. Thanks.

@gpa I don't have one either... mind snapping a picture of it installed just to give us an idea of what it is?

Here ya go.

Awesome, this explains so much off the thread for changing belts! Got belts from Onur today and was scratching my head about that step in the process of removing it. "Splash guard? we dont have no stinkin splashguard". I can see how it protects the belts and hoses from the potential furry creatures that can get run over.

Yeah I ran without it for awhile while I was trying to figure out my overheating issue. It just seemed dumb not to have it. Its waaaaay to easy for ANYTHING to get flung into that area without protection.

Mine was missing and I replaced it with a used unit from a Mud member. I think it's worth replacing. It couldn't be easier to do, and it keeps road debris off the front of your engine, prevents things from flying up into your fan, etc. I think it would be foolish to elect to run without it.

Yup great opil catch plate..
I check it every few days since chasing down my oil pump seal and crank pulley seal..
