The demand is really low so if I did then I’d have to reduce the quantity I make so I’m not sitting on dozens for a year. But if I do that the price per unit is ouch
Brent, if you're concerned about the amount of space left after installing there's still some and enough to store a few essentials. Also, you're more than welcome to stop by and check it out.
Just an update I sent to those who have pre-ordered the next batch:
Folks,
I am writing you all now because each of you are waiting on either the 80 Series Scout LockBox, the 80 Series LockingLid, or the 100 Series LockingLids.
Each of these products are in various forms of production and each have had various forms of issues with the current metal shop I am using. The metal shop has been great with the products they have completed for me but hasn't been great on the order of productions and on the remaining productions I still have remaining. I am still working out the issues with them but it hasn't been progressing smoothly.
All are still moving forward and will be completed but I want to let you all know that any predictions of delivery date(s) have been blown right past. I do not have a solid delivery date until I can work out the remaining issues the shop is dealing with.
At this point I understand you have all been waiting for months to get your orders. Trust me, I'm well aware. I wanted to let you all know its still moving forward but I also wanted to let you know that if the timing/delays aren't working for you I can absolutely refund your order.
Either way I'm still moving forward but please let me know your preference.
It is physically making me ill to be writing this email but after the results of today I have no choice.
The metal shop sent out both the Scout Lockbox bottom and lid for me to test after they finished production on them. Both the lid and box bottom were off...for the third and last time. This shop has been great for everything they have been doing for me EXCEPT this one product. They simply can't pull it off and the costs and time wasted are just too much. As of right now I am pulling the plug on this entire product line. I should have learned my lesson before but I was being too stubborn and persistent.
All of you that have standing orders for the Scout Lockbox (LBX-1), you will see a refund either to your credit card or to your Paypal account, whichever you used. I will also be giving each of you a $25 store credit as my way of saying I'm sorry for all the time wasted.
Its time to call time of death on the Scout Lockbox.
Joey, Sorry to hear that this is the end of the line for the 80-series lock box. I was lucky enough to jump in a little earlier in the product life cycle to get one for my 1997 FZJ80 back in early 2018. Posting up now just to say that what you provided back then was fabulous. Rock-solid steel box with high security lock that fit like a glove into my center console. Very happy customer here!
EDIT: Forgot two things. 1) Someone back earlier in this thread said that they routinely left the key in the lock, which worked fine because there was still plenty of clearance to close the top console and yet still have easy access to the lock box. YES! This works great. You still have fast access to the box but can also lock it in an instant when you need to (e.g., to comply with firearms laws). 2) The Medeco lock cannot be easily picked (I've tried) and is recessed below the top of the box which prevents pulling out the body with simple lock picking tools.
EDIT #2: When I'm not on a trip and my vehicle is parked at home, I keep absolutely nothing of value in my vehicle or in the lock box. So it's not worth anyone's effort to track down where I live or think I have anything worthwhile to rip off. When not on the road it's just an empty 22-year-old beat up piece of junk Land Cruiser. So any low life should look elsewhere. "These aren't the droids you're looking for. You can go about your business. Move along."
Thanks @TrickyT and yes I went thru a lot to develop a lockbox that doesn't suck and checks all the boxes. But, yeah I've had no good luck with the last few shops I've been working with. Not worth the headache anymore.
