45 minutes to heat un 12 gallons look s too much for me !
I have a similar heat exchanger , smaller , AND it take s me 8-9 min. For bearings 35 l .
It really depends on the outside temperature and heat exchange with the environment. We turn it up 1 hour before arriving to camp so it's ready then. Besides in Hebrew there is a saying "the rush his from the devil.." :) Tank is external with limited insulation.

Pls check where you get the hot water .
Must be after the engine block , before THE radiator !
It is getting it from the piping that connected to the rear heater that was under the passenger seat. I replaced it with a heat exchanger that sits above the transfer case. Minimal changes to the stock rig.

By the way, this is how the water system works...

This is the old fittings with PVC tanks. Currently it's all welded 304.

Spent the weekend in the Mojave working with Overland Bound and NPS documenting hiking trails for damage and signs. Love that desert. Now with the main LRA tank I can get almost 800 miles of range. Lost the clutch main so the pedal was stuck to the floor in down town LA so I drove 400 miles without clutch home. Part already ordered and I'll have a rebuild kit with me now and a spare slave.
