Help me out here please..

I have a choice of buying a Toyota LC 80 1994 thats fully loaded
or an LC 105 1998 / 99 model that is pretty much void of all luxuries.

Both are in good condition.

LC 80 is about USD6,000 less than LC 105.

Both are diesel, 4.2 liter engine. Not sure of the engine numbers.

So which one should I go for?

I'd go for the 80 any day over the 105 especially if I know that I will be off-roading!

I just feel that the 80 could take a better beating! And IMHO I think the 80 looks rugged! I would take the 105 if I wanted a car that looks good for looks concerning a night out in a city!!

A 105 is the solid axle version of the 100 series. It uses the same frame as the 80 with some updated parts and body.
I think it would depend if you want to Modify the truck your self or just get in the truck and go. Both would function the same off road with the same mods. You may want to see what the Mods cost and add that to the equation and see what kind of money you want to spend.

Unless Thestallionq8 has more info than he has offered.

Good luck with the choice.

I would go with the 105. More refinement in the interior, quiter. Should be the same offroad capability except it is a tad wider.

With the SFA, I may lean towards the 105 due to the extra creature comforts

Do any of them have lockers? or both without, if both don't have lockers i would go 105, since it's a solid front axle and more refined. if the 80 has diff-lockers then go 80. also the condition of both trucks should make u decide.

You've just got to rub it in hah, 80 or 105. I wish I had the choice.

105 (Diesel) would be my first choice regardless of the luxuries.

Got the 105.

Has no lockers and hubs are manual.

Can I add auto hubs?
ALso an intercooler?

Maybe in the long run would like to add an auto transmission as well, so would welcome suggesstions on this front.

I would think no problem for an intercooler.
Auto hubs might be some work.
Autotranny: does Toyota sell Auto's in Pakistan? I would think Karachi gets too hot, but then again I don't live there.

Great choice.

Hi Jimmy

Glad you said that its a great choice as it was a hard decision.
The 80s land cruiser had everything and the 105 nothing. I paid more for 105 but I think in the long run it will prove its worth.

Most of the Toyotas SUVs that we get here are imported either from Japan or UK, and by far a large majority of them have automatic transmission. So finding a transmission will not be a problem, as long as i know which one to look for. So far I dont have a clue.

Hubs is not important.

Once I get to know and learn the specs on the axel i'd like to order one of them detroit lockers, probably for the rear axel first to get a hang of it.

Also the turbo intercooler, can you tell me which kind should i be looking for?

Sajid

Unless you are stuck everyday in long hours of trafic I would let the manual transmission and avoid the hassle of going from manual to auto.

It´s not only about replacing the transmission but you need to add the computer that control the transmission.

A diesel 80 or a diesel 105?

The 105 diesel!

I feel for you having to make these Godawful decisions . . . :p

It almost sounds like you have a very basic 105(4.2 diesel, with locking hubs). Does the engine have a turbo? The only reason I ask, the very basic ones from both models did not come with turbo's. If no turbo, then you do not need the intercooler. Any how it sounded like they were both spec's similar to each other except the mods. Regadless, enjoy the new toy.

Why would you want to opt for the auto hubs? I think the manual ones are more simple, mechanically, and have lower maintainance. They also increase the life of the front axle and give you better gas mileage.

I'd rather choose manual hubs over auto anyday. Twice on trail days. :)

Do I have to be the one who asks "where's the PICS....?":flipoff2:
