Hey congrats! 80's are the best looking, but the 105's are a close second.

Unless you are stuck everyday in long hours of trafic I would let the manual transmission and avoid the hassle of going from manual to auto.
It´s not only about replacing the transmission but you need to add the computer that control the transmission.
It almost sounds like you have a very basic 105(4.2 diesel, with locking hubs). Does the engine have a turbo? The only reason I ask, the very basic ones from both models did not come with turbo's. If no turbo, then you do not need the intercooler. Any how it sounded like they were both spec's similar to each other except the mods. Regadless, enjoy the new toy.
Why would you want to opt for the auto hubs? I think the manual ones are more simple, mechanically, and have lower maintainance. They also increase the life of the front axle and give you better gas mileage.
I'd rather choose manual hubs over auto anyday. Twice on trail days.![]()
Do I have to be the one who asks "where's the PICS....?"![]()
ROBMIR: For time being i have no palns to convert in to auotmatic transmisson. Sounds like too much work and also seems like many things can go wrong. Being totally non mechanical, I cant take that chance.
Powerpig: Engine is 1HZ, non turbo. Very basic.
Tell me which Turbo from another cruiser can i slap on it? any idea?
Thaiguy: What I mean was if it is possible to lock the hubs from within the cabin instead of stepping out and turning the hubs by hand? I dont mean to nor do i want to drive in full time 4 wheel drive. However what you are saying also makes sense, ie, the mechanical ones are simple and reliable and perhaps its better to not touch them.
cc93: Right now its not in a good state. Give me few days to clean it up and then I will post pictures.
By the way do you guys run 16" rims or 17" rims?
Regards
Sajid.
Sajid: what you have is a rough diamond without the many "gadgets" that came with the more equiped cruisers meaning LESS items to break if you do serious 4 wheeling.
Manual transmission, manual hubs, no turbo, etc, is best thing to cross deep water, mud , etc. without feeling gilty if it ends with mud up to your neck which you can wash with just a hose and plain water.
I would add right away and without any hesitation some simple fully mechanical, easy to install and true and tested lockers like the Aussie lockers which don´t relay in any external compressor like the ARB. My 2nd addition would be a light front bar with a 12.000 winch and may be a 2nd battery but keeping in mind your cruiser is manual so it´s easy to push it to start in case it end with a dead battery.
I know some will flame me but take in mind he is not located in the accesories heaven like the guys in USA or Australia.
After many years of winning my bread customizing FJ60´s and 80´s series cruisers to picky owners, I came to the conclusion that less is better specially in third world countries.
Hi Rob
Pls do name me few mechanical lockers that are available in the US and are compatible with this model. I am there 2 to 3 times a year and can hand carry one back.
I think you should start to ask all this questions at the 100 series thread.
I am however tempted to install a turbo, provided i find one that is a perfect fit as mentioned by Powerpig.
Dual battery also makes sense.
I have a 9000 lb warn winch that i took off before selling my last off roader, a land rover Defender. Is 9000 lbs not good enough for the cruiser?
My own 80 have a 9000 lbs but that´s because this is the maximum size that can be fitted on my TJM T15 Bull Bar.
Last but not least, the suspension. It has coil springs on all coners. I think that its completely compatible with the 80 series. Any input on that?
Again ,that´s something to be found in the 100 thread
Should I replace the shocks and springs by Toyota OEM parts ( where can i find part number and name of manufacturer ? ) or go with an Old Man Emu set up ? Pls help me out here..
I will try to keep it as minimal and as simple as possible. Wont be adding the auto transmission nor an intercooler.
Just need to clean up and update the interior a bit.
Here are some pics. Apparently it was sitting in some lot for past few months before it was auctioned by the UN.
Sajid
If you have plans to lift it , you will not find the coils and what you need at the Toyota dealer.
And since your Cruiser is a 105, looks like you will have to source many items directly from Australia.
what's the loose connector on the RHS pic of post 26?
is that for ABS? if so you may want to reconnect it? if not, figure out what it is? been loose for a while apparently...
Looks like i am stuck in the middle as in terms of suspension the 105 is closer to the 80 then 100.
So I am asking all the 80 series guys here, is old man emu suspension with a bit of lift or no lift better than stock?
Also does anyone have part # for stock springs and shocks?
Took it out on the highway today and thought that the big 4.2 liter block would have no problem reaching 165 kph..wrong. Struggled to get it up to 145.
I need a turbo on this 1hz asap.
Have started writing to various Aussie based companies and am waiting to hear from them.
Only 145 KPH !!!!!! , Something doesn't make sense because your 105 should go faster. And the RPM on 5th were up to how much ?
RPM was around 3700 or 3800..
I forgot to mention, there were 3 adults, 2 kids and some camping
gear in it.
After all had a nice breakfast or with a empty stomach?Just kidding, I still believe you should went a bit faster !!!!!
My previous 5 speed 92 FJ80 with it's 4.5 ltr non inyected gas engine (ours never came with the 3F), 15" oem wheels, stock size tires and 4 adults could reach and keep more than 195 km/h in a blink of eyes.
