Hello
I'm planning to buy land cruiser for every day drive and for off road trips,
I can't decide what will be better an 80 or an 100 ...
It's going to be my every day drive, I'm not doing allot of miles.
In the aspect of maintenance, parts, lift kits, and DIY project,

thanks
Amit

there are a number of threads discussing this, but if you'd like more specific opinions you might want to elaborate a bit more on what kind of offroading you want to do, how much, how hard etc. Generally-speaking, for daily driving to work on asphalt etc, a 100 is more comfortable and likely better-suited overall than an 80.

What @e9999 said.
I have both an 80 and a 100. I daily drove my 80 for awhile but much prefer the 100 for daily driving. It's quieter and gets better MPG. The auto height control is nice too, select Low to ease loading/unloading and no rear swingout makes running errands much simpler and quicker.

80 vs 100 series LC

If you're the kind that showers everyday go for the 100. If you think dirt on your shoes means you need new shoes go for the 100. If you haven't camped since 1982 go for the 100. If you can't grow a beard go for the 100. If you own a Tommy Bahama shirt go for the 100. If your arms don't fill out your polo go for the 100. If you prefer tea over beer go for the 100. If you wear gloves whilst driving your Miata go for the 100. If your food can't touch the other food go for the 100. If you get Starbucks giftcards go for the 100. If your golf handicap is less than 25 go for the 100. If you wanted to be a cowboy as a kid...the 80!

I took a ride in both. It was a pretty fast and easy choice for me. I have had a number of Toyota 4x4's and the vehicle was to be used for road trips. No serious rock-crawling, mucho highway miles getting somewhere, long dirt roads and two-track. So.........100 Series. I haven't looked back. AND I can tow my 40 with it (if I ever get it resurrected).

That said, I really would like to have an 80 on 37's......but it is not practical at all for me right now (and I get the thing in the garage or patio)

I bought a 100 for work and drive it everywhere. I personally own an 80. The 100 is an amazing rig. It has more than enough capability stock for 99.99% of the people out there. The reason I personally own an 80 instead of a 100 is that to me its a more interesting vehicle. it is really comfortable (to me), handles well (to me), and still can crush almost anything at the offroad park with its solid front axle and lockers. An 80 to me is more of what a land cruiser is all about but then again the 100 is really more appropriate for nearly everyone.

I always chuckle when I see a comment like this, because I remember when I bought a shiny new 80 series and heard all of the stuff about how "an 80 series is not a real land cruiser" it's too cushy with the leather/automatic transmission/coil springs/etc. 22 years later they seem to be viewed (by some) as the epitome of land cruisers.

How 'bout a 200? It's like a 100 that goes up to 11.

I do think the 80 series has become the "Universal Land Cruiser" like the FJ40 before it. Go to any event these days and you see piles of 80 series and the 40s are fading and becoming collector vehicles.

But just a hint, if you ask a trolling question like this on a 100 series forum, you likely know the answer before you ask it.

Loved my FZJ80, I think the 80 series is the best looking LC ever made. But the 100 lifted with 33's and rock sliders are a close 2nd and the 200's are bland and invisible on the road, like driving a Honda mini van. JMHO

This is kinda why I like our 80 more than our 100. It's about as advanced as land cruisers got without ditching the solid axle. To be fair the 100 has more power and is way more comfortable to drive. However when I asked my wife if she wanted to swap out 80 with the office 100 she said, "No way, the office one is a soccer mom car" LOL.
