Our babysitter just ran into my ARB bumper in the driveway. Hard. The force moved my cruiser about foot while in Park on a dirt surface. Crumpled the VW, I'll get pics in a sec, but from an insurance standpoint, could the force have damaged my tranny? The tires rolled, they didn't skid. Parking break was enabled on the Cruiser. The VW bug driver, mistook the brake for gas and accidentally gunned it right into the front ARB bumper

Wow, that won't buff out.

hope the babysitter is alright.

the first picture looks like the ARB got pushed up. Not sure if it is the angle of the picture, might check that. As far as the tranny, what makes you say the tires rolled? With the E brake on and the truck in P, I would guess it skid.

It looks to me like that left front wheel skidded. Just the same, if it were mine I'd file a claim through my insurance company, let them subrogate it, and get a thorough inspection done.

I feel bad for the both of you...but I can't resist.

Her bug is pretty messed up!

:princess: + :steer: =

looks like you did get some damage.....that license plate is f'ed!

She's fine, just a little frazzled.

All tires moved. It looks like it skidded then rolled, these pics are right after it happened.

Had to get out the hi lift to jack myself up to roll her out. Just drove it. Drives fine.

Lucky that she doesnt drive another Landcruiser! (Did her airbags deploy?)

You could always locate another low mileage tranny and purchase that for "just in case".
Less hassle than a claim or deductable in some instances. The only thing in the tranny that I can think of is the rear shaft and parking pawl that engages it, maybe with enough force it would pop out of the notch to prevent damage?

Check to see if it will roll in park, apparently there is a little nub that holds the car in park. I have a 97 that was in involved in something similar, it drives fine but you can roll it in park. It is supposedly an easy fix at the transmission shop though, I just haven't gotten around to fixing mine yet since I am not currently driving it.

Most airbags are engineered to deploy at speeds greater than 14 mph into fixed objects, or speeds greater than 28 mph into movable objects (I think his cruiser qualifies as a fixed object).

Ditto .. interesting see it ..

There is always a little movement that it's allowed be the tranny in Park ..

i second the trusting with kids, but then again my sis wrecked alot and we let her see my daughters. Why when there is an accident a Chevy always seems involved somehow or another?

Holy cow! Maybe you missed it with all the excitement, but it appears your winch was knocked clean out of the bumper! :D

Seriously though, is there something hanging down by your AC condenser?

On a side note, I love the custom lights in your ARB - what size hole is that you drilled and what lights do you have mounted?

That's what bumpers are for!
Hey, where did you get the tubing for the front hitch? How much did it cost to get it? I'm looking to get a receiver and put it into my back bumper.

zactly - sadly the baby sitter purchased the VW from chevrolet - darned VW always mixing up where they put the pedals - they should recall those.....

You can get receiver tubes from Northern Tool for around $20 (IIRC) ready to go. I've used them for bumpers/receivers before.

didn't think the Park pawl would allow that much rolling. Indeed something to look at.

(that front receiver does not look like it'll handle too much weight btw. Sure did a number on the bug, though.)
