In preparation for the 2uzfe swap into the 80, a brew aided conversation with my soon to be helpers brought up this idea. Would it be possible to take the body off the 80, and mate it with a SAS conversion 100 chassis, with engine, harness, and complete drivetrain intact, just minus the Hundy body.

Googling suggests the bodies are pretty close in width and wheel base. Also, the 80 can accept the 2uzfe and A750f with some modifications. There would also need to be some DBW parts that would need to be added to the 80, like the pedal assembly. I am also assuming that the body mounts will have to altered to accommodate the 80.

Besides the rarity of such a chassis and donor 80, is there a technical reason this is not possible?

Pretty sure you'll be the trailblazer on that one. Buy one of each, put them on the lift and start taking measurements.

Can't speak to the cost difference, but I don't know why you would do this. If the point is a SFA with a 2uz and an 80 body, you'd be much better off stuffing the 2uz into the 80 chassis since the body and the SFA are already there - not to mention the 80 has the stronger/better frame and came with the SFA from the factory as opposed to engineering the whole front end swap.

I'm sure it could be done, though I don't believe anyone has ever done it because it doesn't make sense for a lot of reasons.

Anything is possible but i agree with the cost and labor going to do it is doesnt make sense. I have thought about the put in the 100 body on a 80 frame and turn it to a 105 hybrid. At the end, the cost and labor doesnt seem to make sense to me. Im thinking doing a SAS swap on the 100 might be a better choice.

All valid points gentlemen.
As it turns out, there is a complete very, very low mile 100 chassis that recently came up for sale local. Has all the goodies, minus the body.
Essentially I wanted to see whether the low mile engine and trans were worth body swapping the 80, as well as the full locking axles.

Technically it's doable, but the 100 has a 5 bolt pattern, semi float rear axle, and only the early ones had lockers.

I suppose smog and registration would be easier.

That's interesting. What's the status of the title? Was this used in a Mad Max movie? :)
