My 79 Fj40 turns over and yet no go. It was running just 3 days ago just fine. I have replaced the coil about 6 months ago and about three weeks ago I had to replace the bottom casting holding the thermostat. Frozen bolts was the problem. Anyway I ended up getting a 1978 bottom housing which does not have the space for the smog valves so I disconnected them and everything has been working. I just removed the hoses to the BVSV and went on my merry way.

Well I am not sure now if I have an electrical problem or if not having the vacumm lines connected is causing me my problems. I have purchased a new distributor cap and rotor since I don't know if that has ever been done or not.

Ideas?

might be fuel related if not electrical.check sparkplug for spark while turning over with ignition on

Well I pulled of the coil to distributor wire measured 20 Kohms which should be within spec however I noticed an oily residue on the tip from my coil which is now pointing that way....I will post if I solve this very fustrating though since the first coil lasted about 30 years and the replacement is only 6 months old...argh.

Still no go and too cold outside to work on. I have a chilton manual and toyota manual would a Haynes manual help sort this out better?

Is the choke working correctly? These things can appear dead in cold weather if not choked.

I hadn't plug the lines thanks for the tip. Choke was working just fine but I will double check that as well. Still too cold to work on until Saturday. minus 11 this morning.

Check your choke, mine was stuck open, once I got it working (yesterday) truck starts on the first turn.
