More bumper adjustments. I think it looks good here as it’s even with the fenders. I will probably figure out how to mount the winch under it between the frame rails to take up space. Also need to add some recover points.
Now need to trace the wood templates onto some metal.

I think that bumper sat original about half inch lower then the bottom of the fenders , you should go sit in the truck and just see the bumper in front of the hood while driving , big roo bar for the road train 😉

Ha. I don’t have seats in it at the moment but I got in and took a peak and yes it is big. Definitely is going to look mean.
 
Not sure why I’ve not poked my head in on this thread before. Amazing. Looking forward to following along.

Well I don’t know if I made progress or not but I managed to get the fuel tank in. The tank was pretty beat up to begin with so I beat it some more. To get it place I also had to remove the speed sensor on the HF2A. I’ll make a block off plate since I am running a GPS Speedo because there is no way I can get it back on. I’m sure the shorter HF1A wouldn’t be as much of an issue.
I think I am going to have to look into a custom tank because I don’t like how little clearance I have. Maybe a pinky finger gap at best. I can beat it some more if needed for now. I also managed the pickup tube. Those were getting replaced anyway eventually.

I beat on the tank some more today. Took the vents, pick up, and float out and was able to bang the big dent on the bottom back out. Not all the way but better. I am now able to get in position with ease and seem to have clearance all around now. In the process I was able to drain out the last bit of red diesel.
I also hacked up the speed sensor into a simple plug. I tapped the hole to M10 and sealed a bolt in it with RTV. It will fine for now. In the future I may go to buddy’s shop and machine a proper solid plug.

Over the weekend I managed to plumb the brakes. Didn't really have a plan others than delete the ABS and the firewall line going to the right side. The only part I needed was the early non ABS union on the axle.
Three way bolts right in place of the two way splitter. I just moved the frame to axle line to the in hole marked with an arrow. Easy enough.

Then made a hard line from the union to the right side of the axle. I used the ABS line brackets to mount the hard line. Easy enough.

These lines I kept and mounted them to fender just like on an 80. I though about deleting them and but I would have had to find the early unions and make/buy new lines. Seemed pointless.

Rear line (front of MC) can be bent from the ABS module and put directly into MC.
For front lines I kept the T under the master. One line goes to MC, another goes to the front axle and the third goes to the rear LSPV which I am retaining. All these lines were the original lines. I didn't touch anything in the rear of the truck.

At some point before the truck is finished I will swap to the four wheel disc/no ABS master cylinder. Hope I got it all correct.
 
I also started on floor pans. I have been putting this off from day one so I decided to make a cut. Now I need to get some supplies this week to move forward. There will be some other fixes first in the areas that aren’t covered by the new pans.

Picked up a 79 take off bed from @joekatana today. He was nice enough to deliver mine and two more going to locals. Now I have to backtrack once again and add sub tank into the build.
75 bed I was going to use will be a future trailer build now.

Hoping this weekend to start hacking at the bed. Cut the side off my rusty bed to see how much needs to go. Lots of spot welds to drill out.

Drilled out 50 spot welds this afternoon prepping for shortening of the 79 bed. Pretty straight forward job. Took about two hours and that included the wife and I struggling to get it off due to me missing one spot weld. Yesterday I cut down the s***ty bed side to find my measurement.

More cutting today. I left it a bit long on purpose just in case. I rather trim a few centimeters from being too long than adding in from being short. I measured a million times yet just couldn’t trust it to cut on the line. My history has proven this many times.

More progress. Fits back together perfectly. Now I need to do some prep to weld back together. Brace underneath needs to be shortened. Also the removaable plates need some help so they bolt back up like they should. Probably wouldn’t have been an issue but I had to go shorter than a 75 bed which cut off two bolts holes.
It was super hot today so I didn’t feel like putting in the effort today.

Come on Cim , we are all waiting to see the bed sit on the frame ! Thinking I just might do the same rather then extend the frame on my next one.

I’ve been rain delayed this week so far. Weather looks good for the rest of the week so no excuses now. Hopefully have it placed this weekend.
But I bet it’s easier to stretch frame if you’ve done it before.
 
Full day of fab work yesterday. The issue slowing me down is the fact I’m shorter than 75 so lots of small things to do.
I shortened the covers and had to do some work do make sure they still mount. Next up is the bracket that needs to be shortened. The bed part is ready to go as I did more trimming to make sure it all fits back properly.
Hoping to have time this afternoon to finish up so I can prop it over the frame this week and start working on frame mounts.

I’m in the home stretch now with the bed. I got the alignment bolts back in place and I’m ready to spot weld.
I added a second alignment bolt which along with the factory one will now be used to secure the removable panels.
Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have time to push the truck out of the garage and plop the bed on the frame. I really don’t want to spot weld outside as today it killed me working in the sun all day.
