More progress today. Welded in the right side floor pan. I went with the measure once, weld a lot method.

We had a guy who we said his motto must be "Measure once, cut twice, force to fit, stuff with rags, paint to match." ;)

Today I managed to mock up the bumper mounts with metal, previously had some wood templates. Tacked it together and will bring to a friend to do the final welding.
I plan on mounting the winch low since the bumper is a bit high on the frame. I’ll box in the bumper mounts also at that time. Right now getting stuff off the floor or shelf is priority. I can barely walk in my garage with all the truck parts scattered everywhere.

Took another 4cm off the bed as it was budding me during my break from the garage. Now the wheel wells line up much better. I hadn’t done the final welding so it wasn’t terrible but still took all day. Next up will be mounting it to the frame.
I had to rig up a semi sketchy lift system to move the truck out of the way solo.

Mocked up the frame mounts for bed today. Hoping to weld them together and on the frame this week. Then I can drop the tailgate and sit on it!

Weekend plan is to have a beer on the tailgate Sunday afternoon so I have to get a lot done. I burned in and shaped the bed mounts. The front most mounts will only be a platform with cushion and I still need to burn those in once I bolt down the bed to the new mounts. Also still need to fill in the spot welds on the shortened bed. Can’t wait to have a full bed of storage as the garage is a mine field of parts that I have to constantly jump over. Not great on my back.
If I have the time I would like to figure out the subtank mounting with the bed hoisted up. I’m guessing a crossmember will need to be figured out. I need to check the 75 frame sitting in the backyard to see if it has something I can cut off and use.

Notice the tiny ramp strips going into the garage. These allow me to push the truck in and out of the garage solo. Before it was a two person job to get over that lip.

Heck yeah, we will probably need to fab the same (or nearly the same) rear subtask crossmembers. I know I will also need a bracket between the frame rails to hold the e-brake cable housing as well.

Progress!

I was thinking that today that we can probably figure it out and make two of them. I may swing by tomorrow to see how close my mounts are compared to yours.

I’m on the home stretch with the 12HT. The 79 is next.

I got the outside spot welds done. I’m waiting for the paint on the frame mounts to dry so I can bolt it down. Then I’ll tackle spot welding the ones in the bed.

Looking for a reference for my truck. What did you end up with for spacing between the cab and the bed? I figured about an inch. Yours looks about where I want mine.

I just eyeballed it. I know I slide the 1” ruler between it at one point when I was fiddling with things. I’ll try to remember to measure tomorrow.

Weekend goal accomplished.

Hell yeah. Well done and well earned.

Almost 2cm which I bet is a bit smaller gap than factory if I was betting. Rain boots could still probably slide in the top for storage. 😁 Thats a thing around here for the concrete workers.

I started attempting to figure out how to mount the subtank. @c2dfj45 did a nice job on his so I’m using his thread as a guide.
I also need to figure out where the 3rd line on the filler neck goes.
