Looking forward to testing out the brakes to see what kind of adjustments need to be made to the system.

Does your 40 have a brake booster? When I did the disc conversion on my '66, I had to change(raise) the brake peddle height. The boosted peddles hang from a different pivot point.

That's sounds like a pain.. Yes sir, I've got a booster but I haven't had a chance to take it for a cruise to see how things work. The TREs are still torn apart, need to rebuild center arm and drag link.

Got the drag link rebuild kit ready, just need to clean it up. Removing the TREs wasn't too bad once you figure which are left threads and which are right. They haven't had boots for a long time. Coolerman's write up (below) was wonderful. Things are moving along..

Got my panthers helping me work on the 40 and keeping the mice off it.

Great thread! Thanks for posting!

Nicely done. Thanks for the documentation and photos.

Taking a few minutes on a Sunday morning to read thru a newly discovered thread/build up. Great work; the refreshed parts look great. . . sad that they are behind the wheel and dont really get to be seen, isnt it? :)

Looking forward to future progress!
Thanks Gents! You're doing a heck of a job yourself Doc! It is a bummer to cover up all these nice new parts but hopefully I'll be covering them up with new OEM wheels shortly. I have the caps already.

Rebuilt the center arm. Old worn parts posted up next to the winch. I didn't remove the housing from the frame (yet). I didn't want to open up a new can of worms with potentially destroying the mounting hardware. I'm so close to getting this thing driving again I didn't want another delay. After everything is torqued down, aligned and the brakes are working properly, I will pull it off and have it powder coated with a bunch of engine parts in 6 months or so after enjoying the cruiser for a while.

Got the drag link cleaned up, ready for paint and the rebuild kit. It will be installed tomorrow.

Got all the TREs mounted up with Anti Seize, just need to torque them down and insert the pins. I believe I will use POR 15 on the rods.

She's back on all 4s, stopping and steering great!! Knuckle rebuild, front disk conversion, new TREs, center arm rebuild, drag link rebuild, 3 new braided brake lines up front and aisin hub refurb.. I had a lot of fun! All the nice looking parts are covered up now @TractorDoc... It happens I guess haha. The brake pedal is solid and she stops great so far but the steering seems to be a lot stiffer.

Is this stiffness normal?

I took the cruiser for a test drive after the front disk conversion. The pedal feels great! It's firm with little travel. The rear drums lock up rather easily on dirt. I removed what I believe is the residual valve from the front circuit of the master cylinder (see below). Does this look right to y'all? My master may be aftermarket.

EDIT: After reading this thread how to remove residual valve for disk brakes or . . . I'm not sure what to think, only that I need to bleed the front circuit and see if the rears still lock up. VERY INTERESTING and informative!! And yet another informative residual valve write up. Residual Valve Removal - Land Cruiser Tech from IH8MUD.com
