I am finally getting around to pulling my '74 F1.5 engine from my FJ-40. Currently 130K miles on motor.

It runs and starts right up - I am swapping it out for a fresher '85 2F with Power Steering.

It has:

Just Passed Smog

2F Valve Cover
GM HEI Distributor - Installed 4/04 (only ~8500 miles since install)
Rebuilt Head - Installed 10/06 (only ~6500 miles since rebuild)
Manifolds
Oil Pan
Smog Parts Removed, but some come with it.

Low Compression in 2 cylinders - #4 & #5

Price:
Engine $250

Does NOT Come with it:
Bell Housing / Starter
Throttle Linkage
Oil Pressure Sender
Carb / Air Cleaner / Fuel Pump

Let me know if anyone is interested, and I will get pictures & can send video of it running. Or come by (east side of Tucson).

You'll LOVE the 2F and power steering. I do. :D

Lots of good info on MUD about swapping over. Enjoy!

What tranny / xfer you going to run?

I've always been wondering if it was Chuck's or Claudia's rig, how far did someone have to go to fetch a pump?

There was one on hand. That happened right after I took my Hi-lift handle to the jaw and nearly knocked myself out. Fun day.

it blew on Rocky's truck, but I had a spare :flipoff2:

that reminds me

I better round up a pair of rear axle shafts again ;)

Yes, it still has the "original" Claudia-brand fuel pump. It also comes with a spare - but why change it - it works great?

That was a fun trip, except for a few minor irritations like my fuel pump, and when Alvin got konked in the jaw.

Everything must go, including all the spares for the '74.

Here's a couple of pictures..... Sorry I didn't zoom in on the fuel pump.

The plan is to keep the '74 H42 4 speed and stock TC.....

If I were doing it, would keep the early carb and air filter setup. That is how Claudia's is and IMHO the early setup rocks!

:flamingo:

dang, just when I was going to place dibs on the carb

but really, spare yourself the agony of later carbs

Of course you could always convert to Chevy Throttle-Body fuel injection...

Wait... did I just say that?

it's not that difficult to rebuild an early carb :meh:

I have one sitting here as we speak :p

If you are switching Carbs...

Not sure if I followed your plan entirely, but if you switch carbs you might as well give away the fuel pump with the motor.

New carb has return line on the fuel pump...old carb has return line from the carb.

Blown fuel pumps on trails and busted jaws...This does sound like an interesting group. :) I'd like to join you all on a trip one of these days.

My 74 has an electric fuel pump bolted on the frame rail from a previous owner. I use the mechanical, but have used that electric in a pinch.

Oh yeah...nuther thing

I might buy that motor from ya. Has it been bored? Any machine work done to the short block? I am thinking of a spare for my 74 f1.5. I'm less interested if it's already been to the machine shop.

Oh yeah...one more thing...

If ur 2f is going in and you don't have AC, you could get the front passenger side motor bracket that will hold an AC from a mid 80's 60. That's what I have going in my 1969 40 with 85 2f

And if you did that...you would want the later carb so you could get the AC compressor kick up idle circuit thingy so your truck doesn't die when the AC kicks on at idle.

But if you could give 2 hoots about AC, well then forget i mentioned anything.

Okay, i'll shut up now. Actually, I need to get out to the garage before I get roped into more xmas shopping.

l8r...:)

Rocky,

one other point, if you are not going to use headers, keep the intake and exhaust manifolds to fit the carb and for other space issues....

if you are going to headers, buy the damn most expensive s*** from Man-a-Fre, the ceramic-coated style [and get the OEM style metal gasket]

really, there is no point in saving $100 when you are cooking your driver seat all summer (and spring and autumn) long  don't ask me how I know

and it probably is just as easy the buy the entire system from the headers to the end of the exhaust - I know that's what I will be doing NEXT time
