have been looking through threads on a search and everyone seems to be moving right to left with the slave cyl but I would like to go the other way.

Can the slave be moved from DS to PASS side using existing parts other than fabbing a new hard line to cross over?

The motor/drivetrain/bellhousing are all 79 4 speed with a diaphragm clutch
slave, engine mounts, and the 40 are 1971

I know the fork and pivot moves over but will the old slave mount correctly?

Hi All:

Yes, use the clutch slave cylinder that came in the '79 and you should be fine. For the matter, steal the clutch lines from the '79 donor rig.

But why go to all this trouble? Just leave the slave cylinder in the stock '71 location (DS) it will work fine.

Regards,

Alan

Dont have any of the 79 stuff--I got the drive train via shipment w/o the clutch stuff

my headers are close to the slave and the fork can be removed and reinstalled on the rh side w/o tranny removal but not so on the LH side

so I guess I will put it on the left anyway if I dont want to buy a new slave or slave mounting pieces to mount on the rh side---is that correct?

brackets

On SOR's site they show a bracket and bracket hangar for 8/80 on I am assuming I need that. Slave cylinders years are

58-70
7/70-8/74
8/74-7/80
8/80-4/85

so is 8/80 on RH mount?

Found these pics from a post from a 66 and 77
http://images.google.com/imgres?img...en&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&sa=N&start=60&um=1

looks like the only thing that would happen is the bleed would be upside down? Unless the rod would not be straight on then?

ED---No wait just flip the 66 the other way--looks like a fit--- duh

I did a Downey V8 conversion in the early '80's that moved the slave cylinder from the pass to driver's side with a spl bracket.

It put the bleeder on the bottom and air rises soooo.......if you are just flushing fluid no big deal. If bleeding to eliminate air in the system it is more difficult. One way to do this is to 'back bleed' using a syringe or other means to force the fluid (and air) backwards or towards and out the clutch MC.

can't help you on the mounting questions but the mounting holes are offset from the axis of the shaft so you will need to take that into consideration. I have not done this on the mixture of years you describe.

On my 62 FJ40 the 3 speed bellhousing has provisions to mount the slave on either side. I had mine on the passenger side to get it away from the header.
I had to make a hard line and moved/welded the hard line to rubber hose bracket to the passenger firewall rib.
Might want to make sure the fork clears the under body support rib through its travel. I had a 1" body lift on my cruiser so I could tuck the drive train up higher, I needed the lift to clear the support rib. This was with a 2F, SM465, 3 spd case.

B Smith, when guys convert a 3 spd. rig into V8 with 4 spd. tranny they have to mount the slave cylinder on the right side because we do not machine the left side of our conversion bellhousing for slave cylinder mounting. Sounds to me like you could use our hose for slave cylinder mounted on the right side even though your using the 6 cyl.. This is a 23" long SS braided hose, 10mm female on the drivers side connection, lays on top bellhousing, and 10mm male at the slave cylinder. Problem is we have to provide a copper washer at the slave cylinder to seal because your slave cylinder female threads are deeper than our male threads, consequently seal is made at the copper washer (same as banjo bolt fittings).

making the line

Yeah

thanks, sounds like it will work then from what you are saying

Making the line would be easy I'll have to check on clearance/fit tonight

nothing like being in front of it to figure it out!

Line

Thanks for the idea on the line I appreciate it but I already have some hard line I can just bend up to meet the soft line. Probably will replace the rubber hose and mate up with a ss line but I want to see how far the hard line takes me first then I can get a ss line to suit

The FJ25 had the clutch slave cylinder on the passenger's side. It then move to the driver's side mainly because the high low shift rods had a bracket mounted to the motor mount on the passenger's side. The FJ25 had everthing shifted from the tranny cover including the hand brake. Then in 1961 and the FJ40 everthing moved to the dash and steering column. Then sometime after the shifters were moved back to the tranny cover it when back to the passenger's side. So as long as you have done away with the dash mounted high low shifter no reason you can't mount it to the passenger's side.
