Folks, I am in search of a photo, and possibly wiring description of installed fusible link PN 82627-60070. I’m not super smart on these, but am confident that I can follow directions.

I am nearly certain the PO hacked out and replaced the fusible link on my FZJ70 with a piece of wire only, and I would like to resolve this if my supposition is correct, with a replacement from @ToyotaMatt.

I’m just not sure how much was hacked away, if i need to replace a an OEM plug, or what. The thicker wire was originally attached to the positive terminal with a corroded ring that snapped off and I replaced, just to get it running again.

Here is what I’m working with, with bonus shot of OEM ground retention screw.

Yes, new battery, terminals, etc. are on the way…

That odd black plastic housing was what I had on mine.
I believe it to be Factory.

I replaced mine with locally available fusibles.
This thread helped me. Factory manual wiring diagram shows specifics on fusible link “sizes”.
fusibles thread

That plastic box is factory. There should also be a connector on the wiring harness.

The OEM fusible link (the replaceable part) has several links in it. One has a ring terminal that connects to that plastic box (which should have a cover on it and a lot less rust inside) as well as a mating connector to plug into wiring harness.

Mine are also missingas the PO chopped them off. I made a replacement based on the wiring diagram using aftermarket connectors.

Someday I hope to return it to stock.

as of the new year , most of fusible links kits will now include the OEM Japan Spec. Toyota Harness side connector plugs , and extra brass / tin-plated terminals

i have NOT had the time to update ALL store photos yet and the text description / words of the fusible links kits revised updated added kit contents

but , in the case of the
82627-60070 , the added additional harness side electrical parts apply ...

see below pics ...

also ,

i now offer a solution for the now disc. / NLA black box w/ 1 stud

this is a OEM YAZAKI japan spec. part that will now take the place of it ....

Looks like @ToyotaMatt has what you need.

The black “junction box” in your photo looks like a pretty old fusible link cover. I had a similar set up in what was originally in a 86, 3B powered troopy. Here’s a post and photos from when I upgraded to a new style fusible link and junction box:
What did you do on your 70 series today? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/what-did-you-do-on-your-70-series-today.804784/post-13612878

There are multiple posts following that one with photos that may help and a look at the FSM and EWD for your truck will help guide you.

how did you substitute the OEM Yellow Fusible link wire ?

Thanks for posting all that. This bit of wiring work has been in the back of my mind for a while. I need that connector for my hzj75 and didn't realize I could get it from Vintage Connections.
Vintage Connections is a great resource for cleaning up wiring

I’m off the coast of Japan, so I’m far from my truck, but near its birth place. Without being able to check, I believe the yellow wire on the old fusible link was connected to the glow plug circuit (black wire in my truck). When I installed the new fusible link, I connected the wire from the glow plugs to the blue wire in the new fusible link (FL Glow 2.0 L in the above diagram)

Mine is a diesel, so the OP having a gasser will have one less FL wire than I do.

Thanks all. I’ve got most everything I should need to unhack this and prevent it from melting down, and a backup fusible link to keep as a spare. Thanks to @ToyotaMatt!

Once my truck is back from the body shop and I get the opportunity, I’m going to tackle the battery area.

Not 100% sure, because I am new to this, but it seems like the PO just cut it out. I see no evidence of the harness-side plug, and judging by the Super Secure Safety Retention Screw (SSSRS) on the negative terminal, quick fixes seemed to have been favored.

In any case, I will post a thread on this in the not-so-distant future documenting my mistakes, and hopefully my eventual success to help others.

Hello,

Apparently, POs have a thing when it comes to getting rid of fusible links.

1FZ engine fusible links are long gone. As you already know, Matt / @ToyotaMatt makes a replacement.

The box you have is OEM.

This is how installed fusible links look in a 70 Series truck with a 1FZ engine.

You may also want to replace the positive battery terminal, as well as the negative. The latter is available as a terminal/ground cable assembly.

Thank you Juan! If you have other shots with the second ring terminal and the black male end plug attached, I’d love to see them, so at least I can try to figure out what got hacked away…

Hello,

The negative terminal looks OEM but from a different vehicle.

I only have a picture of the positive terminal. By the way, this terminal is OEM.

Hope this helps.

the BLUE fusible link wire is a thicker gauge or MM. SQ. then the YELLOW is ,

Neither YAZAKI or SUMITOMO offer the YELLOW JIS Fusible Link wire any longer , but substituting it for the BLUE in your case , i am not following the GLOW PLUGS circuit ?

what did originally have from the factory ? .

what has changed or been modified in your particular case that creates the need / allows your circuit protection level to be increased like i am explaining here as a question ?

I have found the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum a very valuable resource when attempting to reverse PO "work" and find good pictures of stock/unmolested cruisers. some good photos if you're willing to scour. They don't have a 70 series with the FZJ but theres some good photos of an 80 series with that engine that may help

I think you may have mixed up the two posters - @Redline70 has an fzj7x with a 2 circuit fusible link. @svsisu is describing his similar-but-different hzj7x with the glow plug circuit.

From the pictures & the FSM, it looks to me like @Redline70 needs an engine harness side 1-way connector (housing & terminal) to replace the one the PO hacked off. If fzj7x fusible links are still available, from @ToyotaMatt or from Toyota, then ideally he'd get the matching connector so the fzj7x fusible link will plug right in.

@ToyotaMatt - do you have fzj7x fusible links with the round connector like @JuanJ posted in his picture above? And the matching engine-side connector to restore @Redline70 's?

If so I'd recommend getting several links and having a small stockpile as Toyota will eventually stop making them, requiring people to get creative. This is a challenge right now in the 60-series.

If fzj7x fusible links are not available, then it's time to get a little creative. If I were to design my own, I would find the wire that would be going into a connector (if it hadn't been brutalized by it's PO), probably cut the ring terminal off and discard the junction box on the other one, and make my own links using fusible link wire matching Toyota's diameters in the FSM I posted above, and put the waterproof connector of your choosing onto the engine harness. A metripack 630 wouldn't be a bad choice.

If the OEM fzj7x fusible links are not available but I still wanted an OEM link rather than a custom one, I'd find a 2-circuit one that is still being made by Toyota and that has a matching engine-side connector available. I can't think of one off the top of my head, but the 3-circuit hzj7x link is still available, as-is the matching engine side connector.

OEM is nice but this solution isn't waterproof so it'll eventually have corrosion if not greased.

Thanks for all this! I do believe @ToyotaMatt has the right fusible links, as well as the harness side female connectors, and replacements for the black junction box, so I should be good to go on parts, thankfully.

My remaining challenge is trying to figure out where the female, harness side plug is supposed to be wired in on my truck, because I think the PO cut it out. If anyone has clear pics of the connection points, would love to see them.

This will be among my first tasks when I get my truck back from the shop in couple weeks.

Thanks all!

Per the FSM it is a red wire, for the headlights. Probably a 16g wire. It'll be part of the bundle coming down the fender from the firewall. The PO may have spliced a different color onto it so you might have to follow the harness back a bit to find it.

On my RHD it comes out of the firewall on the left-hand (passenger) side to the battery also located in that side.

Not sure about yours.
