I'll trade you my 700r4. Just fix the H55 first :)

nothing wrong with the internals of the tranny, just the outer shaft housing that breaks. Let me think about it...

I was partially kidding, but what would that entail in regards to adapters, etc? Do you know what the gear ratios are on the H55?

There are no adjustments, preset at the factory.. just have do a visual with it buttoned-up.. if the fingers are not equal there is something is defective, either the flywheel surface, disc or the p- plate itself... also the slave needs to positioned correctly so there is a straight push on the fork.. if its pushing at an angle? that's problematic with in it self... Who is Randy anyway?

Thanks Grant.

I will have the flywheel resurfaced & get a new disc/p-plate and see how it goes.

Randy is a mechanic in Irving who has done several conversions including mine & Joel Brown's...

Yeah, now that you mention Joel I know..

no where fast...but...

Hey Jeff,

I have yet to move forward with swap. Just had our second coming two weeks ago and she is just now getting into a decent sleeping / eat/poop cadence. Really hoping to pull together needed bits and pieces the next 3-4 weeks then begin. I have my 73 K5 trimmed up as my daily driver while i go through the process which will help. Still have that image of wiring harnesses strewn about your living room hallway when I first came to see the 1HDFT. Think that is my biggest mental hurdle...the wiring. But SOOOOOON!

Cheers,

D

Dude! How the transplant going?...

Sucks he's still making head acks for you ... I'm about to rebuild his crossmember on mine to ... all one bolt holding the tranny in:bang: stripped it out twice:meh: wish I could be more help on yours good luck

Here's what I found...

Looks like the input shaft is wearing the retainer nose from the inside, its so thin that it just broke off..Any movement of the input shaft (in or out/ sideways).. something is not right here.. being the splines on the disc are worn that bad; what does the input shaft look like and the pilot bearing? Spline wear like that is sometimes associated with a bad p-brg... When you get the front retainer off post a pic...

Wow that sucks

Sent from outer space via my mind

Luis, is there a lot of play on that shaft? It looks like the clutch was only engaging a quarter of the spline length.

That was my concern too.. reason I was asking about the pilot bearing, if spline contact falls short so must the end of the input shaft with the pilot brg....

Yeah, and that clutch flopping around at the end of the shaft probably caused it to rub against the housing until it failed.

So does this mean the wrong adapter was used to mate the 5.3 to the H55?

I was thinking the same thing... I guess I need to find the part # for the Mark's adapter on th truck and check with Advance Adapters.

If this thing has a removable access cover? easy way to tell is button the trans back up without the clutch and flywheel; take look-see as to where the input shaft ends up in relation with the pilot brg..

Craig, you hit it on the money.

I talked to AA yesterday and they tell me that the adapter I have is not the right one for FJ60 5.3L to H55. That it could be made to work but the kit I have is really for FJ40/55 with 5.3L and 4sp. I need the Mark's kit which I thought I had ordered. I need to try to find my receipts.

Should I be surprised?

Damn. Did you order the adapter or did Randy order it? Well, now you know and can start to fix it right.
