Not that anyone asked, but I thought I'd take a minute to outline why I signed up for this fantastic event. I'm pretty new to this community, new to overlanding, not much of a camper, and not all that mechanically inclined. However, I've discovered a surprising level of enthusiasm for all of these things since becoming a 100 owner in December and getting so much incredible information on iH8mud!

What I'm hoping to get out of attending 100s in the hills:

-Developing my skill and comfort level in navigating various off road situations. I'm not an "off road enthusiast" per se. I look at off roading as a way to access hard to reach places (and hiking trails). This is a truly unique opportunity to drive a great variety of trails alongside an experienced group with the same type of vehicle.
-Learning more about the 100 series from knowledgeable owners and vendors. I'm interested in maintenance tips, build out options, and seeing everyone's toys.
-Seeing a beautiful part of the country for the first time, meeting new friends and becoming an active off-line participant in this online group.

Thanks again to the organizers, I can't wait!

As a returning HIH veteran for my fourth year in a row...I can assure you that your expectations will not only met but exceeded!

Well said @dubitup. Blackbear only has maybe a combined 10 minutes of "pucker factor" to it where you could get yourself into trouble, but don't let it go to your head. Chris (@bluecruiser) was an amazing guide last year (as well as all the other guides we had on other trails). They really know what they are doing and take care of you. I am an amateur when it comes to off road driving, especially when it comes to this sort of terrain as I come from flat ground territory.....yay muddy swamps. If you feel uncomfortable with something just ask someone if front of you for a spot because everyone is extremely helpful. I highly suggest that you do this trail as it is something you will never forget.

RE: Poughkeepsie, I'm running 33's (285/75/16 BFG ATs) and sliders, no lift, no bumpers, OEM locking rear diff. Is that enough to make me ok for that trail or is that one I should skip? I consider myself barely above "stock", but only by a hair.

Poughkeepsie actually has a bypass now (a real, approved bypass), so you would actually be fine. You could try the 'wall' and if not doable, use the bypass. We will have a plan for that day, depending on the group. The trail, regardless of whether or not you want to try the 'wall', is one of my favorite, some of the best scenery in the area.

There are some Youtube vids, take a look and see if that wall is something you/your rig could take on. Would love to do it in my 80 but probably not in my wife's mostly stock LX.

Glad to hear about the bypass. Now will definitely be going on this one.

This is definitely going to be some interesting wheeling, had a fully built/locked 80 for 10yrs that I've done this type of trip in and have a built/locked 40 that I wheel often. My 100 is stock other than a set of 285/65 BFG ATs :( I have a set of 1.5" OME springs in the garage I had bought to give me less sag when towing, plan on installing those and cranking up the torsion bars to give me a little more clearance. Going to try and pull off a set of Slee step sliders, but will remove the factory steps if nothing else. This is going to be a new experience in the biggest vehicle I've ever wheeled :bounce:

My fiance and I are heading up a day or 2 early to take engagement photos in the San Juan Mountains and are planning to incorporate our love for Land Cruisers, the outdoors, and our dog into these photos. Do the locals have any leads for photographers in the Ouray/Telluride area that can accommodate these 3 things? Leads are appreciated!

No issues with being stock. Poughkeepsie in the only trail where anything more than stock is required. We have completely stock and super clean LX's there every year. Ko ran his completely stock LC on all the hardest lines last year. Took a little section of running board off on the trail, but went clean on everything else......even went up the waterfall on Black Bear. The 100 is an absolutely perfect vehicle for this area.

@tucker74 the guy in front of me on a few trails 3 years ago ran a stock LX470 with running boards and slick AT tires, plus he had a 'bullet' style cargo container strapped to his factory roof rack. Went everywhere the rest of us did.
Yup - I'm sure she'll do just fine ... just used to lockers and 35s, will have to adjust my driving a bit :steer:

I would love to help out. I can also get you in touch with some local professional photographers as well. I have some incredible areas that would be amazing for portrait type photos. We do our Christmas card photos in that area every year.

Top of California? That view is beautiful.

I have never been, but I know that pictures never provide scenic views any justice. I bet I could sit there at that very same spot and stare at scenery for longer than I'd like to admit :)

Can't beat top of Imogene IMO...

Those are great motives to get in on the event! You will learn so much about your machine, and how to drive it.

I owned mine for 7 mos before deciding on HIH5. Didn't really know what they're capable of. I just knew I wanted one. When I arrived home late one night after HIH5, I woke up the next morning and looked at it as a whole different animal. Just thinking about what it went through while it sat quietly in the garage. Damn it was fun.
