I am currently searching for a supplier of wheel cylinders for my 67 40. The ones i have located are 60.00 a side and bigger diameter. With all of the issues with my brakes ie stock master cyliner, single line and bad cylinders I think it may be cheaper to do axle swaps? If that seems to be the concensus what axles are the better swap mini truck or 60 series. I can find complete sets in Colorado for 450.00 for disc brake axles from a mini truck is that good?

I'd just swap in the either later FJ40 or FJ60 axles so you can get vented rotors (minitruck rotors are solid).

Though IIRC those early years of Land Cruisers use a special, different diameter brake line. So you may end up having to replace ALL of the brake lines from the m/c to the axles. Are you prepared to do that as well?

Yeah I figure if i am going to replace the axles I will do brake lines as I will also try to get m/c with purchase! Thanks for your help! I did an SOA and shortly( within 50 miles) the brakes went so it has been sitting for too long.

Remember that your 67' stock firewall does not have room for a booster for your master cylinder, that you need for disc brakes. there are some conversions, but there are always issues. I have not done it, but have heard that replacing the firewall with a late model is the best way to take care of this.

I guess what I am saying, the question you should be asking, (what I asked) do I want this to stop OR do I want to make this the best stopping cruiser.

I found cylinder rebuild kits at rockauto.com. All of my cylinders were original, all frozen, and I rebuilt all of them in a day and a half, for under 100 bucks.

If you want to do it right, and want all the benefits of disk brakes, expect to have the issues with the master and booster fitting. Firewall replace or adapters ( I think there is an issue of hitting the carb unless you went sb chevy) Then all the brake lines, then the new front axle, or swap outers, then the gm conversion in back.........

It is only money.... but how much time you got?

I replaced the cups on all four wheel cylinders on the rear axle. Also turned the drums and replaced the shoes. That cost about $75. Then upgraded the rear axle shafts with fine spline shafts from a pick and pull for $50.

Replaced the front axle with a disk brake axle out of a 76'. Then replace the knuckle bearings, and a added a new M/C. All of that ended up costing some coin.

Good luck

50$ ? what a deal!
How did you make them fit without changing the side gears or the 3rd?
