I come from the 60 Series world, but acquired a 1969 40 earlier this year and have been slowly digging in. One small trouble spot I’ve found are the dome light brackets. As best as I can tell this style was used circa 1966-1973 - my dates might be off +/- a few years here. Both of mine are trash, they seem to have rusted out at the base where they sit on the drip rail.

Is this common? I searched the forum and it seems there aren’t any replacements available unless you scrounge around for decent used ones, so I’m probably going to fabricate some. They will be laser cut and CNC bent. If there’s a larger need I can do a run and sell them as well. I’d love some feedback on what the interest level might be.

For what it’s worth the original brackets were stamped and have a small lip running around the perimeter. If I did these, they would be simple pieces of bent metal - not concourse-grade but functional. You’d have to port over your bulb holder. City Racer repops the lenses. If nobody is making the rubber gasket between the lens and bulb holder I could make those as well.

Any and all feedback/corrections welcome. Like I said, I’m not a 40 expert … yet.

Ok, here’s a prototype that’s pretty close. The angle of the light holder is a little much - or maybe it’s preferable so the light points more down where you need it. All the holes line up.

Again, not an item for a concourse restoration, but it’ll get the job done. Just transplant the bulb holder and secure the ground on the back. Done.

Any interest in a run of these?

These are ready. I have a very limited quantity, but will have more if the demand is there.

I corrected the angle to more closely match the original. Comes with two stainless steel JIS screws and two stainless nylock nuts, because when you transfer over the bulb holder you’re probably going to snap at least one of the original screws.

$27 apiece with hardware. They’re on my web shop here.

Great design @CruiserTrash ! Have you thought about going full aftermarket and eliminating the bulb holder as well? Like a version that would have bolt spacing for just a standard rocklight. I think the bolt spacing might already be close to fitting something like this HF rock light.

Weird Autoworks makes this rocklight bracket for the GX470 platform.

Just a thought since the bulb holders are probably difficult to get hold of. My 40 had no dome light brackets or bulb holders 😭
