I come from the 60 Series world, but acquired a 1969 40 earlier this year and have been slowly digging in. One small trouble spot I’ve found are the dome light brackets. As best as I can tell this style was used circa 1966-1973 - my dates might be off +/- a few years here. Both of mine are trash, they seem to have rusted out at the base where they sit on the drip rail.
Is this common? I searched the forum and it seems there aren’t any replacements available unless you scrounge around for decent used ones, so I’m probably going to fabricate some. They will be laser cut and CNC bent. If there’s a larger need I can do a run and sell them as well. I’d love some feedback on what the interest level might be.
For what it’s worth the original brackets were stamped and have a small lip running around the perimeter. If I did these, they would be simple pieces of bent metal - not concourse-grade but functional. You’d have to port over your bulb holder. City Racer repops the lenses. If nobody is making the rubber gasket between the lens and bulb holder I could make those as well.
Any and all feedback/corrections welcome. Like I said, I’m not a 40 expert … yet.
