Hi Guys!!!

New to forum but in need of help. Both wiper motors for 64 FJ40 are bad to some degree and would like to send for repair or replace. Used IH8MUD threads search and other venues extensively and all dead ends. Photos attached. Anyone that can help???

64 wiper motor status

Thanks for the responses. One wiper moves only an inch or so and stops. Other not at all. Switch and cableing are original. Checked power at external terminations to motor and ok. Can feel both motor housings vibrating when I switch on power. Could be brushes, windings, both, something else???? Searching for components diagram for insight. Haven't pulled motors. Rather find someone who has expertise with them rather than ask a shop I don't know to restore a motor some threads on this forum say can be difficult. I for sure want to have a replacement option sourced before I yank them .... just in case they are shot to ****.

Sometimes the grease gets thick after so many years and makes the motor work
harder to go through its cycle,or not move at all.
You can try cleaning out the old grease and replace it with new grease, and cleaning your brushes. I have had luck doing this to wiper motors that didn't move at all. They worked like new after cleaning and new grease. Good luck

tahoe40/45, thanks again. To remove the motor for cleaning do you have to remove the nut on exterior of windshield and pull shaft and all ........ or can the motor be removed from inside the cab leaving shaft in place?

Yep, remove the nut on the outside. Did one of the 71 once (with pto for the other wiper), no rocket science, but some small parts inside. Some terminals had melted a bit and indeed some old grease. IIRC I had some difficulties with getting the brushes back in place.

the cam could have come off, that's what happened to one of mine.

TS&R existing wiper motors

Thanks for all your input. Very helpful! I found acceptable fit after-market motors from a hot rod supplier. Pulled existing motors and drive gears/cams/shafts all gummed up from old lub. Removed minimum components to gain access, oftened gunk with mineral spirits, and cleaned a much as possible.

I just found your post.

Which hot rod shop did you get your parts from?
