Might trade the rear under-seat heater from my '84 60 for a good 62 style.

My FJ62 is tropical-spec and didn't come with a rear heater, but a good friend gave me an FJ60 version as a gag wedding present (picture my beautiful wife, sorrounded by tons of pretty, useless presents, opening a big box to find a dusty Cruiser part!) and I installed it a few years ago under the passenger seat. I already had an 8" Tuffy console and wouldn't give it up for anything! In fact, I've spent a lot of time and more money than I expected figuring out a solution for the newly installed Marlin Toybox, which with the shifter in the stock location, would have eliminated the Tuffy.

What about the ccot console?

CCOT claims "bolt in easy" any body tried it out?

Pricey it is but good it looks in the photos.

Spook, I should have mentioned that I heated and shaped the temp control arm so that I could push my console back a little further. I'll check to see if I have a close up.

OOOOOOOOoooooooohhhhhhhh good idea. I didn't think of heating up my heater arm to move it. I tried moving it as-is and of course, no luck. Then again with my luck I'd jack up the plastic

I'd like to see how you did it though. I'd like to move mine back a bit, and will likely have no choice anyway when I'm able to install the manual tranny.

Am I the only one who thinks the Tuffy center console looks like complete ass? I have a 25mm ammo can that would look just as good, which is to say I woulnd't install it. I mean I guess it is form following function and all of that, but still couldn't they have built a skirt to cover around the heater or something?

Well it's a universal application, for the most part. You read my mind on the skirt thing though. Once I get it permanantally placed and am sure that I'll have room even for the manual shifter, I'm going to take it to a sheet metal shop and have a skirt made for it so it'll look stock. Plus I'll have a small piece welded on that'll hold the heater blower control switch.

yep.

j/k - the truck is about function, not really looks. If looks are all important - get a new beetle or something else obnoxiously rounded.

the stock center console is usually nearly broken, barely holds anything - basically a waste of space. the nice thing about the tuffy is that it is secure. Some 16yr old dumbass breaking in isn't going to get into the tuffy. Good spot for a nice stereo (and out of sight), and whatever else you value.

I have a great arm rest, nice and comfortable. Lots of room inside the box and the ability to lock it. Why would I care what it looks like?? Not to mention that I don't sit in my car and stare at the center console.

Here is mine... More info

What year jeep did that console come from?

Even if mine was 12" I would still be able to keep the shift handle in the stock location. I just set my console a little back to make sure that the handle wouldn't interfere. For a drink holder on the front, it will just be a little offset.

pics??????????????????

Well, SHE definately looks great in the pics!!! I have a CCOT in my '40 and a Tuffy in my '60. The CCOT is nice, but the lid has no hinge stop, so it flips over completely backward, although this could be remedied by installing a strap to limit it's range of motion. The locking mechanism on the CCOT, among other things, while it's functional, is a far cry from the quality of the Tuffy. The CCOT did bolt in easily enough and it was easy to mod the bracket to run the heater hoses through it.

I feel like I wasted my money on the CCOT, but at the time I chose to save a few bucks. I wouldn't do it again. Tuffy all the way.
