g'day everyone can someone help me i have a fj60 with a v8 conversion have been fixing it up to be licenced, i replaced the box as it was whining n pretty flogged, i brought another 60 series with a good gear box so put it in mine, with a new clutch and everything back together oil in all good to go i went to start it and noticed it was in gear so i went to change gear and it wouldent budge so i pushed in the clutch and it started so clutch is working, the gear stick just wont move out of 1st i think it is i have tried driving it then go to change but nothing please is there something i can do to free it ?????? :bang:

take the shifter out and make sure it's properly located when you replace it bcak in. it might not be in correct location, but the tranny is in gear.

look into the cover where the shifter is inserted. There should be a couple of polyurethane(?) cup shaped bushings that the shifter sets in. probably one blue , one black. If these are missing or seriously worn the
tranny won't shift. If you have a very early tranny the bushings won't be there. In the early tranny the
shifter receptacle is machined concave to match the ball on the shifter. In later models the receptacle is
squared off and the bushings provide the concave surface for the shifter to ride

i have both gear shifters they both have a little cup on the end of the shifter that moves around the ball and the blue washer is there and in tact could it be the selector inside the gear box at all i havent opened the gear box at all so it should be all good ?

i will check both shifters as i put the old shifter into the new gear box that may be it as the old shifter was bent to fit as the v8 motor is shorter than the long 6 toyota motor will let u know how i go thanks fellas muchley appreciated !!!

there should also be a flat black poly washer under the blue cup shaped one. It's also critical

I'd bet the farm that you put the shifter on wrong. Remove it and get the shift rails in the neutral position; that is with the notches for the shift lever side by side, lined up in the middle of the opening. Then put the end of the shifter into those notches. It should move freely side to side when you're done.

thanks guys should the shift rails move when the shifter is out like its in neutral hey will check all what has been said cheers again !!

got it sorted took top cover off while box was still in moved shifter arms around abit and free'd it up was a jammed shifter arm all is good now cheers everyone for you input !!
