I hate to start another thread but I've looked every were on here for info on the gas mileage to expect from my stock 60 series 2f again sorry for another thread but their like half a million threads on here

To give you an idea of the range of MPG values you can get...

Totally stock, with 29" tires, and all the old emissions gear present but mostly falling apart, I was getting 11.8 on the highway if I babied it at 55-60, and about 9 in town.

Now, with a new (Trollhole) carb, a full desmog (but stock distributor) and 32" mud tires, I get 13.5 mpg going 60-70 on the highway, 15.3 going 55-60, and about 9-12 around town, with the low end of the range when I'm only making very short trips without a chance for the engine to warm up.

stock 2f... around 10 in town, around 13 hwy.

Stock rig

Mine was getting 10 around town and 13 on the freeway.i was able to get 14.2 mpg when we head out to Pismo beach last year fully loaded, best ever i got of my 2f.:D

Maybe we should take this the other direction, and start posting the worst mileage we have achieved!

8 mpg for around 80 miles of low-speed 4-hi driving in the snow last winter. That was before my desmog. I think I actually got better than that on my last actual wheeling trip, which consisted of hours spent in 4-lo.

I use the Gas Cubby app on my iPhone. Helps me keep track of how broke my 60 is making me... Lowest I've got is 11.4 around town with very short trips. Highest is 18.2 on I5 from Portland to Seattle keeping a very steady 60-65. Average is 14.2 over several thousand miles.
Fully desmogged with a Trollhole carb.
These numbers are the exception though... I was fully smogged for a week when I first bought my 60 and got 10 mpg no matter what.
YMMV... Don't get a Landcruiser for gas mileage. Yikes.

If it makes you feel any better, i also own a 1975 Cadillac that averages 7 - 8.5 to the gallon... so my cruiser is surprisingly only the SECOND worst in the lineup

I second 88bj73 in the gas cubby app. I have only just started using it on the 60 but I have 1-1/2 years worth of data for my outback and it's a great way to track every last car expense.
I'm happily getting 16.7 on the first 42 gallons in my 60.

Yeah you can really expect no more than 18mpg for a completely stock cruiser in great shape. On our way back from getting BeBe in SLC, UT we averaged just under 17mpg with a consistent 60-65mph. Now around town I get about 10-12mpg. I am fully smogged but have the P/S and Smog Pump disconnected currently which gives me back a bit. Get used to a $60+ fill up about every week to two weeks depending on how much you drive it (there is a good reason I am riding my bike to work most days).

Best mpg I ever got going 50 to 55 mph for 160 miles was 17 mpg stock setup FJ62 with fuel injection and auto trany.

When I lifted it and put 35" tires I now get 9.65 mpg. Without big hills I get 10 mpg.

Is that corrected for bigger tires/gearing?

If that's not...you're actually getting somewhere around 10-20% better than that, depending on your gearing.

If that is corrected...time for a tuneup!

Stick to around 60mph and you'll get good mileage.

City driving with short commutes and lots of stopping and starting is a killer.

I got 14mpg with my set-up sticking to around 60-65. (2F with Weber 38, header, desmog, OME lift, 33" tires)

Half a million threads and no luck? Probably the only other topic to have more threads is "how much mileage I've racked up"

A lot of people just spend 2k on the most logical mod to help keep gas costs low, which is buy a gas sipper for DD...

Yes, the gearing is adjusted. I also don't cruise at 65 mph. I'm usually doing around 73 mph and the RPM's are a little higher and that eats gas. The 12.5" wide mud tires don't help either.

Our '87 fj60 is pretty much stock except for the 31x10.50's and the fact that the smog pump has been bypassed. Accounting for the extra 7-8% difference in the tire circumference we're still getting a real 15-17 mpg but only when we keep it in the vicinity of 60 mph (2500 rpm). Actually I'm surprised/pleased it's that good as the ol' gal has about 282k on her and is truly tired. I know we all know the limitations of our LCs but anymore she seems to have even less hp than she should.

I know were talking about our OEM engines but as an aside our newest acquisition is an '85 with a carburated 350 (9-10 mpg) soon to be swapped with a 350 TBI. With the Ranger OD I'm hoping for about the same mpg and more hp/torque. My hopes are boosted by KWalkerM who is apparently getting around 16 mpg on the highway with his 350 TBI [STRIKE]and I think that may be without any OD[/STRIKE]. ETA: Turns out the 16 mpg is with a 700R4 tranny w/ .7:1 OD 4th gear. Still hope to at least match that.

I used to consistently get 21-22 out of my '74 FJ55, desmogged, stock carb w/K&N, stock dizzy, MAF 6-1 headers and a turbo muffler w/Tru-trac 11/31-15s.

The I put in the 327 SBC and Turbo 400 and never got better than 16.
Towed the boat a lot better though. But it was crap off road--Toyota Blazer.

I'm averaging 13 on my FJ60.
