so I have most of the parts to do a 60 series axle swap on my soa 40 and was also plannins on using 60 springs in the rear along with a shackle reverse up front and the cut and turn. anyways was wondering about rear brakes. I want to do disc brake conversion but I am unsure of what to do with them as the mounts are different than 40 series stuff. does anyone make a braket to mount calipers on the 60 housing?

does anyone know if would there be any conflicts if I were to use landcruiser calipers and the 6 lug chevy rotors with the centers milled out to fit the axles. or should I just use the monte carlo calipers that every one else uses.

Thats like 6 questions there..
YOur first question.. Rear disks on a 60 series rear axle? Yes.. It's the same bracket as on your FJ40 rear disks but instead of a simple washer with a notch cut in it it's a DOM spacer welded to the bracket and using 3 holes instead of the 4. Weld your old holes shut, space it on the new axle, cut some dom tube and weld em back on in place..
YOu were asking about land cruiser calipers and chevy rotors? Yeah why not.. Make a bracket to fit em on there.. Or better yet.. use cruiser rotors and press the studs thru the rotor and axle..

so the monte carlo caliper brackets will fit the 60 housing with a little bit of modification sweet;-). now is a 78 trans am caliper the same as monte carlo? cuz if it is I have some and that will save on the cost of this conversion.

I have no idea on the Trans Am caliper similar to montecarlo.. Bunch of em are very similar.. They're like $20 new tho.. Why re-use something that's been sitting around.. use those as a core..

yeah that was my plan. as long as they fit on the braket

cut and turn

so now I am getting ready to do the cut and turn on the front end and was wondering with the 60 axles on a 40 with shackle reversal and the hole in frame style shacke mounts probably will need the cut and turn just how much?

do 60s come with more caster than a 40??

once I have the pinion pointed at the t case what is the caster supposed to be set at?

I just did a 60 axle under my 55 (same width as a 40). Do the springs first. Then put the axle under the truck with the perches not welded on yet. Put weight on the axle using small jack stands under the axle, with the weight on your newely widened springs. Use a floor jack to point the pinion at the t-case. Whatever this angle is, record it. Probably something like 10-12, maybe 14 degrees. Place angle finder on top of leaf springs if spring pack is flat or somehow find way to measure perch and record what the spring perch is at. If this angle is 0 then good. It might be one or two degrees off. If one or two degrees off, add 4-6 degrees of caster (moving steering arms up). If it is genuinely zero then add 4-6 degrees and that is it. Hope it helps. There are no set measurements, you need to take the measurements for your given truck depending on how much lift you have, what your drivetrain (OEM or something else) is, etc etc. That is why you should take the measurement pretty much every time you SOA. ..

I wanted to get these housings all ready and then do the swap cuz I am using all the guts from my 40 axles on the 60 housing (and I have the shafts for the 60 housings aswell. and the rig is on the road so downtime is not too good unless its for a good cause!!but i guess it will be a couple of days for me

so I should get the rear all buttoned up and then tackle the front.

I didnt do the cut and turn on my current setup and now I regret it. dirveshaft angle is retarted. look at the u joint its like soooo close to binding :-(

and the last picture is the 60 housing that I will be using

well I still havent done the swap yet:eek: but i am still trying to gather info and I had some pictures of a cruiser from cruiser outfitters(i think) that had spring over and shackle reversal with 60 axles and I lost them. well anyways I am looking for pics of the bent shackle thru the frame with the and how the ubolts go around the housing. if anyone has any:beer:
