Did the Rock Warriors only come in sets of 4? I am getting a set next week and need to get a 5th for the spare

I bought a set of 4 on Craigslist...then found another single on Craigslist for $100. Keep an eye out. They pop up with regularity. Getting more rare though, now that they stopped producing them. Toyota will now ONLY sell them if you have a VIN from a truck that came with them...meaning none of us LCs guys could order new from Toyota even if we wanted to...
Some here have bought sets and split them up...

Not going to be an issue. I am keeping the tires and wheels from my 100 as part of the negotiation
There is a set of 4 on the Denver Craigslist for $950 that he said he would take $800. They are still on his truck so it would be another week

Guess this Rock Warrior thread is as good as another, so do the rings have to be removed to mount tires? Assuming so, but figured I'd ask as I only really need mine balanced, but would like the KO white lettering on the inside...currently outside. Got to be tedious taking them off and then back on... and I'm looking for #5 also.

As a matter of fact. It is imperative that the rings be attached when the tires are mounted. Otherwise you may not be able to get them back on.

Well ... the Toyota docs for the TRD wheels indicate otherwise:
There is no rationale behind this strong warning to mount the tires before installing the rings (and by assumption to remove the rings before unmounting the tires), and it may only be applicable to the 285/70-17 BFG AT T/A KO tires recommended by Toyota, but it is what Toyota recommends.

No seriously, I took mine to the tire shop and watched them mount them up with the rings on. The rings are the same outside diameter as the rim, so there is no interference. After reading the above, I can see that I will have to remove my rings and reinstall them.

I really don't know why Toyota recommends mounting before installing the rings. It could be nothing more than trying to avoid cosmetic damage to the rings during the mounting process.

@MScruiser - that's mainly for you and I because we are running the Trail Grapplers - the Trail Grapplers have a rim protector lip that protrudes and swells around the ring. If you run Trail Grapplers "It puts the ring on the wheel" before mounting the tire....no question about it.

I never thought of that, but it is strange that Toyota are so specific in their tire recommendation:
Come to think of it, I don't recall any Toyota vehicle that came with the TRD wheels having anything but the BFG AT T/A KO tires ...

Good advice!
The BFG AT T/A KO's have a rim protector that is definitely outside the lock ring:
So no problem installing the lock ring after the tire is mounted.

I think it's just a safe practice, especially running aftermarket tires. I cant see any negative drawbacks, besides the increased chances of a technician scratching your beauty ring during installation.

Removal was not necessary when my tires went on. Those rings are not bead locks. They mainly just protect the valve stem.

I've seen sets on Craigslist about every couple weeks... Wishing I bought a set of 4 WITH 34" tires a couple weeks ago for $800... Missed it. Would have used the tires, and maybe let you guys have the wheels somehow. I have 5...but they are definitely getting harder to find...**Here's a thought:
I'm likely driving to the Denver area in a month. If you really are looking for a set, let me know and I'll keep my eyes open. Maybe I could bring them to you if I find a set near me either in Southern Cal, or somewhere along the way such as Vegas, or Salt Lake City...
Dang it! I would have bought those, had I seen this comment earlier. Erie is close to me. Oh well, better luck next time
