Ok,

those with a yota 5 speed in their FJ60....what RPMs you seeing at 70mph, with stock gears (3.73) and close or stock tires?

My truck is stock....seeing about 3K rpm at 70mph.

About 2400 RPMs (33" tires, 3.70 rear end)

Dynosoar

wait
IM seeing like almost 3000 at 70 with 33s and stock gears in a 4 speed

yeah.... I would say the 5 speeds are nice. its on my "shopping list" I can go past 3K but ...then one wonders for what purpose... Engine not like.

I guess I should have said 3.70 ratio.

Anyway.... I find myself all the time trynig to shift into 5th due to the engine sound / rpms...but you just can't get there with the 4speed.

I'll be in overtime city unti end of Sept...maybe I can save some pennies towards the 5speed :)

Just for reference since I don't have stock (3.70) gears or tires.

2500 @ 70 in 5th gear with 4.11's and 33's.

X2

Good all around combo. Truck seems happiest running about 75.

Plugging in stock values in this calculator...

At 70mph you get ~2750rpm.
At 3000 rpm you get 77mph.

So do you guys with H55f trans find your 2F has much better economy compared to when you were 4 speeds?

I would imagine it would save it self in fuel with in a couple years.

I can't say because I yanked out a low compression, oil burning 2F & 4 speed and replaced it with a rebuilt 2F & 5 speed. Changed the diff gears, from 3.70 to 4.11, and tires, 31 to 33, at the same time. My typical highway cruising speed is 55-60 on 2 lane roads and 60-65 on the interstate. Gas mileage is right around 15 mpg under these conditions. I also have a vacuum gauge hooked up and monitor that. I try to keep the vacuum at 5 psi or greater.

For reference again: FJ60 with 3FE, H42, 4.11's, 33's delivers 14-15 mpg under same driving conditions. FJ40 with 2F, H41, 4.11's, 35's also delivers 14-15 under same driving conditions.

me too...

ON the nose...for me 4.11s/33's/5th

I believe that the H55F has a 16% overdrive so if you are currently seeing about 3K RPM at 70MPH then you would see about 2520 RPM at 70MPH with the overdrive.

Ok, I had that one coming.

I have never heard about anybody altering thier driving habits based on the Vaccum of the engine.

ITs the "old school" method of trying to get manage for better fuel economy.

Personally I don't see these trucks getting much better fuel economy no matter how you drive them.

Vaccum monitoring = light throttle
