The only thing I've been able to find is a 55mm thin-wall socket with 1/2 drive from Checker. Anyone know if it's deep enough, and whether it'll fit on the nut tight enough and still have enough outer clearance?

that will work, just be careful of slippage.

you can order the 54mm from www.sleeoffroad.com

Check the hardware store or tractor supply. They should have one in that size.....

I just did my birfs with this same socket. Like has been already said, be careful not to torque too tightly. You shouldn't have any problems if you don't go beyond the FSM suggested torque. The socket will fit. Good Luck!

1 mm out of 54mm is less than 2% difference. This is not at all like a 12mm socket on a 10mm nut which is a 20% difference. You will not strip the nut with a 55mm socket.

A 2 1/8" socket is 0.025 mm smaller than 54 mm and works great. Best of all, it was $5 at the local hardware store.

Now you and I both know that standard sockets are not sold in Canuckistan......

Quit lying to yourself and accept the metric system.....
