How did you guys get rid of that reflective tint? I don't know about land cruisers, but the lx has a weird tint that almost has a mirrored finish to it

Not to steal the thread but mine got kind of brownish tint on it. I believe it is factory glass that came like that. I would like to make it a little darker and definitely on the black side of things
I'm thinking if the different colors will look funny...

How do you know if it is tinted?

Here in Oz almost every car is tinted. To keep the heat and sun out of the car.

In Texas too. Tinted windows and a sun shield in the front windscreen when parked, absolutely, positively saves the dash and interior from all the UV. My tint isn't that dark but it's all about the UV and heat transfer.

Not compared to the Surf I had before the LX. I think it is but not very tinted. Today I saw a silvery shine on the windows.

I was looking at my mirrors and could see a guy who looked just like me looking back at me. What the hell is that?!!

Seriously though, I've really noticed that in the front two seats, without any tint, on a hot sunny day, it feels like you are in greenhouse. The front windshield is relatively close to the driver and passenger, so there is very little protection from the sun. I do not want to tint the front, but am very interested in a film that would help cut back on some of that direct heat. Any suggestions on what brand/type works best for that?

Ok, I want in on this topic. Has anyone put black tint on top of the "brownish" factory tint? I'd like to see how it looks like. I went to get my front window re-tinted and I asked for the black ones. They told me that it would look odd with the rear "brownish" tint. So I told them to go ahead and tint the rears as well. They said it would look mirrorish because of the brown tint already on the mirror. So I backed down and just told them to do the bronze tint to match the rest of the vehicle. But now I'm second guessing myself because it's not dark enough and it gets hot in the cabin after a long day of driving.

I put 5% black tint on mine. I can snap some shots later today if you would like.

I did it.

In no way trying to stir the pot here, but what's the point?? It looks good sure but it's completely detrimental on a expo type rig isint it? Why make it harder to see Offroad, especially at night??

My 2 cents I guess...

Truth of the matter is, most true "Overlander's" drive very little to none during the night. Especially in foreign countries. It's considered to be a travel risk that most aren't willing to take.

This doesn't just apply to Africa or South America either. Ask most experienced travelers and you will find this holds true especially to Baja and main land Mexico as well.

In addition to the heat reduction benefits attributed to tint, there is also the security benefit of keeping things out of sight. This includes you when you find the need to stealth camp and sleep within your ride.

Tint and an "ExPo" type rig go hand in hand.

I want clear windows

I agree with you...who's rig is this? While losing the UV protection, I think clear windows open you up to more people and in Mexico, that can be a good thing, especially when the cartels are all driving around with heavily tinted rigs. I would prefer to keep as low a profile as possible...

I think you are largely correct that most don't "plan" to be driving after dark. But, plans change, especially off road. I've had many times where either due to a break-down or being stuck, that we've ended up having to do some unplanned night driving, particularly in the Middle East. Trying to drive in dunes with poor lighting/visibility at night is very challenging. Even just simply backing up can take on a whole new meaning.

I am interested in this too. A non-tinted or very light tint for the windshield that cuts UV/heat would be great. Thanks

If its too dark for that one instance that you just might have to back up and can't see anything (unlikely with 15-30% on the front windows) roll your freekin windows down. There are four well placed buttons with Auto up/down on them to your left.
