@cruiseroutfit, do you mind helping me to verify the part numbers I need?

I am very aware of Kurt and his shop, will most likely just purchase a complete carrier from him. However, I and many DIY'ers can get parts through other means and if I can help verify part numbers this swap would be more common. I just happen to be on another site getting part numbers for reference. I wanted to add to this thread to help gather information to make it easier for others to do 5.29's.

Sure, give our parts sales team a call (or email) at the shop and they will get you all squared away with the necessary parts. It's not my job nor best use of my time to provide the tech and parts support for you to get parts "through other means" :D If you want to buy the parts from us, we would love to help. If you want to buy the parts through other means, its fair to give them the opportunity to assist you with the list of needed parts.

Info@cruiseroutfitters.com would be the most efficient reply.

I totally understand, I put a lot of my own time and money to verify the information for the Tacoma 5 speed manual swap. I also appreciate any company willing to chime in to help the community. I very much appreciate any of your input and time Kurt. If you had a 5.29 for 100 series F/R kit on your website I would have already bought it.

I sent you guys an email.

I’m curious why you want 5.29s. Do you plan on fitting 40s?

kurts team installed my 4:88s and IMO theyre a bit much on the freeway even with 35s.

Plan on fitting 37" tires like the OP. Seems like no one else is interested in this project. We'll see, trying to get a hold of a locker from an 80 series.

Its easy to do and like Kurt said there are a few different ways to do it. trade someone your elocked axle for a non locked axle +600 cash and buy an 80 series arb with 32 spline side gears. Or if you have an early 100 seires, find someone with an 80 that wants 4.3 gears and swap side gears in the rear.

If you want the rear to be as strong as possible, run an RD151 arb and 200 series 4.88's w/32 spline pinon and super thick ring gear. I have a 100 with 37's and a 4 speed, thats my combo plus marlin tcase gears. These trucks all have auto's and v8's in the US, so crawl ratio isn't as important as it is to a manual trans 100hp 4 cylinder 4runner on 39's. if you have a 5 speed, the 1st gear is so much lower than the 4 speed that you will never notice the difference between 4.88 and 5.29 in low range.

Whatever you decided, give kurt your credit card info and the right stuff will show up a few days later.

Thank you for that informative post. Maybe I'm trying to reinvent the wheel by doing an E-locker 5.29 in the v8 100 series. And I didn't want to go with ARB for several reasons, but my thought process is changing. I was dead set on setting up the Tacoma with 5.29's but sold it. Maybe I was stuck thinking the LC needed 5.29s. You bring up some great points about it not being the same. I do have a 1999 so I have a 4 speed but other than that. I appreciate your input and others based on real-world experience with your setup. I'm not very familiar with the 100 Series so I'm learning everything I can now to make sure I build it right the first time.

Fwiw, it would be cheaper and/or easier to do 4.88's in the axle and our 10% underdrive gears in the t-case, netting a 5.37:1 overall ratio and improved low range IF ultimate gearing is your need.
