I need to fit the center pin in my new detroit locker. I have 5.29 gears and hate to grind teeth. The center pin only seems to hold the c-clips in the axles. Can I grind the center pin instead of the gear set?

I would recommend grinding the gear before the locker pin, I have 5.29s in my 40 and i had to take a lot off of the ring gear so i feel your pain. I'm surprised no one has came up with a better way to do this " short of a full floater".

I started to grind last night. It's amazing how much you have take off to get a little angle of the pin. I talked with one of Randy's guys and explaned how much I was going to have to remove from the ring gear, and discussed grinding the center pin. We talked about the detroit and how it operates, the center pin only holds the axles in place so the c-clips won't drop out. I told him I'd like to grind the pin 90 deg. from where the axles would hit and turn it when its partialy installed. He said it should work. We'll see if I can do minimal of each. Thanks for the reply
