At the time I put my 351w in my 40 (something like 7 or 8 years ago) AA (Advance F**kups) had all of the adapters avalible to adapt it to an NV4500 and the stock three speed x-fer for the SAME price as installing for a 350. ALL the parts were the same price and I was able to get motor mounts, headers, and a bellhousing adapter. I had to fab a slave cylender mount and I chose to build a crossmember instead of by AA's. All That said, The "univeral" motor mounts that AA sells for Fords and other engines are JUNK. I have bent the right side mount and it would regularly vibrate loose the MM bolts. At one point, because the MM is so long, the bolt boss cracked off the block. I then desided to loctite the bolts in and just last weekend they both sheered off flush. In short, don't by them. I would recomend using stock mounts and fabing a new bracket to the frame. I am not inpressed with AA's headers eather. While the headers seem to be "OK" they ar the block hugger style and are made of very thin gage metel. Both of the colectors have cracked compleately off and needed to be rewelded.
All this is to say I would only recomend AA's adapters and fab the rest. Yes, you could buy everything you need but if you will be DD ing the rig and want it to last, learn from my mistakes and build your own parts if you can. The slave braket and crossmember I built were easy to do and they have worked flowlessly. I wish I had built my motor mounts because if I did I would be going to Serf &Terf and now I am not.
Sorry for the rant, and by the way, I LOVE the 351W!!!!

This thread is useless without pics

Honestly I love my 351w, mated to a np435 and a stock 3-speed case. Q-jet and it runs like a champ. EFI is down the road but it runs well enough w/ the Q-jet that I'm in no hurry.

I made my own motor mounts on the frame side and used the factory rubber mounts. AA rear cross member.

Check AA for trany options.

The 350 chevy is easy to put in and a 383 stroker kit doesnt cost that much so if you are looking for performance that might be an option that is easily installed

I have owned 3 5.0 Mustangs so I may be a little biased. But obviously Diesel Dude doesnt know much about Fords.

They make stroker kits for them as well 331, 347 are most popular for the 302 (5.0) and 393 is most popular for the 351. Power per cubic inch is always higher with a ford, and according to everyone here its also a lighter engine. And the dist. is in the right spot :)

Aftermarket for 5.0 is huge, more than you would ever want to spend on an engine in a cruiser.

Main thing I love about cruisers and other 4x4's is that you can lfor the most part, leave the engine alone. And if you do want to go V8 then you dont have to drop tons of cash $$ on performance parts. (Like over $2K cylinder heads, etc!)

If you want info on ford stuff check out www.corral.net its a Mustang boards but tons and tons of info on everything including engines.

If the stock motor ever dies ( I doubt it ). The 5.0 swap was exactly what I was thinking. My reason for the change out are a bit different though..........

I personally think that the 5.0 with flowmasters is the coolest sounding setup !!!!

I do agree about fords having more power per cubic inch, I have just beeen doing some research and found that you can buy kits that will make chevy motors bolt right in so for some who cant do fab work or want to make sure that there swap looks as good as possible, you can get not bad power from the chevy and if you buy the kits it is a super easy install.
