Yeah, I would love an excuse to get back out there. I have been going to Moab in the spring for the last couple years. Maybe you will have to bring the gold cruiser out to the worlds best playground.

Sounds like a great idea to me. I'll see if the crew wants to do Moab this year for our annual trip. Missed it last few times....combination of broken parts and lack of talent:hillbilly:

little hijack over...at least it's ttt

I thought I heard this rig went to the EC... Good to know it just headed south ;-)

I had been talking with the pervious owner over the last few months on high steer bits. As luck or un luck would have it I moved into the next town over from him. Thought finally I get to see this thing... Nope. Sold and gone...

Congrats enjoy it!

Nice score. I'm in a fairly built FJ and am thinking about the 80 platform for some solid axle fun, so I'm extra curious to hear your feed back about the switch and the 3 link's on road manners.

Well was going to wait until next weekend but I'll jump in. I picked up Justin's old rig last weekend, been messing around and DD'ing it for the past week. It really does ride awesome on the street, tight steering and feels like a much newer vehicle than a 20yr old LC. Coming from my previous build having full long travel with Kings, I wasn't expecting much for a SFA rig...this kit proved me wrong.

I haven't owned it for a whole week yet, but I am expecting a nice delivery Friday with some 5.29's, fromt ARB and compressor get up. Will be hitting the dirt to get some offroad feedback this following weekend on Mottino if any of the locals want to come check it out in person. I'll be patently waiting for your rear solution to match this awesome front.

Bobby, Im glad this thing got you home safe. I just noticed activity on the thread and decided to jump in. Im glad the truck went to someone who will really use it. Its very bitter sweet... Make sure you post up some pictures of your adventures, i would love to see what you're putting this thing against!

Thanks Justin, it's been treatin me well. The diffs just came back today with new gears and locker so giving it a week of casual driving to break them in and fresh fluids. Air compressor and tank are mounted and wired in. Just a matter of getting some time away from work and hitting the trails the 21st up in Big Bear.

Hey Justin - since you don't have the 80 anymore and before you abandon us on MUD forever, how bout a quick summary of tips and tricks, things you would do differently, things to watch out for or any major snags you ran into when installing this kit yourself? Would like to know what I'll be up against. My plan is to do all the cutting an grinding myself then have somebody burn the brackets on for me since I'm too much of a noob to tackle something like this. Thanks

Finally got to stretch this kit out. Worked flawlessly! Really flexes and works well on the rocks. Also rides great moving at a quicker pace, soaks up pretty much anything. I'm very happy with the rig and am itchin to take it out on more technical trails.

Anything it didn't soak up? Just want to know so I can make an adjustment if needed.

Honestly need more seat time to figure it all out. As it sits now the rear is limiting how far the rig can go, not the front. The rear either hits the bump before the front maxes out and tilts the body or does not have the same responsiveness when turning around corners at a faster pace. I would be interested though to run a 2.5" body coilover due to the massive weight of the rig, but the dual rate 2.0" handled everything great so that's just nit-picking. A rear kit to match the front would be the only adjustment I need

Where are you located? Maybe I can help with that.

I'm located in San Diego/Los Angeles. Depends on the day.

Well, for starters.. i'm not going anywhere. Now to answer your questions:

- Stripping the axle was fairly simple, once out from under the rig.
- Stripping the frame was a bitch. Especially the pan hard bracket.
note: if you don't remove the entire pan hard bracket, do yourself a favor and remove more than you think you should. It will interfere with Brian's bracket if you don't.
- The location of the lower control arm brackets interferes with bolt on sliders. I had to remove mine and modify the forward most leg of the slider to work with the bracket. Then again.. i would never go with bolt ons again anyways.. not strong enough.
- When installing the frame side coilover mounts, do the driver side first. There is more wiggle room on the passenger side to match the driver side.
- Buy a shop creeper and some extra tall jack stands.
All in all, i was very intimidated by jumping into this project. I have done a couple leaf spring setups before which seemed pretty self explanatory. Turns out its not much more difficult. If you do decide to do your own welding, have a pro check your work. Fear not my friend!

Would you sell the kit with just links and brackets? No coil overs and not shock towers...

-A

Perhaps some want to use coils with straps, or own coil overs already and plan custom hoops... Just saying, that would open the market to everyone.

Thanks,

-A
