Any word on when we are going to do trail signups?

We were all on a call last night finalizing some things (including trails)

Because we are operating on permits from the FS, we had to work out some last minute logistics. An email is coming, but no one needs to worry about not getting a trail they really want. We can move things around as needed. I fully understand that folks would like to know which trails they have prior to leaving home. The main focus is usually Poughkeepsie and Black Bear. We will probably only do one Poughkeepsie run because not everyone is built for it, but we'll do multiple Black Bear/Imogene/Ophir runs.

Thank you all for your patience as we finalize these trails. There will be a Doodle online list sent out on Sunday night that will allow you to choose which trails you'd like to run each day. The formula is pretty simple, we are on permits from the Forest Service to run 10 vehicles per group, per day. Again, you will have the opportunity to run the best trails in the area, we'll make it work. Don't be worried about not getting on the trail you really want. We have a few great trail leaders standing by who can take a group to a certain trail if need be, but we have to stay on the trails that are listed on our permit from the Forest Service. We only picked the best ones! Running the entire Alpine Loop isn't an option for the simple fact that it's 9+ hours in the seat. It's just too long of a day with 10 vehicles and if there's a breakdown or even a tire puncture, it could stretch to 12+. Besides, who wants to break camp at 6am? You're on vacation!

Each day will include a mild, medium and hot trail for the day. Obviously, "hot" is the most difficult trail that day. We recommend that if you've never been with us before, or have never done these trails that you do not choose Black Bear on the first day. Give yourself and your family a chance to experience the beauty without hanging off the side of a 2000 foot cliff. Every one of these trails has an exposure element to it. Listed below are the trails we have for sure with dedicated trail leaders who have done them several times and know the routes and hot spots. We will likely add a few more as the event closes in and we figure out who wants what. I will be in camp early on Thursday and will finalize with you when you check in. Where it says "TBD" below indicates that the group may return to Ouray via any of the passes depending on weather, traffic, time and abilities of the group. Your return will never be more difficult than the trail you selected for the day. If you choose Poughkeepsie, you'll see portions of Mineral Creek, Corkscrew and Hurricane the same day.

Friday
Clear Lake (mild)
Imogene/Return is TBD (medium)
Black Bear/Return is TBD (hot)

Saturday
Imogene/Ophir (medium/mild)
Black Bear/ Return is TBD (medium/hot)
Poughkeepsie Gulch (hot)
*mild run is TBD

Sunday
California/Corkscrew (medium)
Black Bear Pass (hot) We may do 2 Black Bear runs on Sunday as folks leave out of town
*mild run is TBD, but by this time you'll be ready to spice it up.

If you're coming from Ouray (or points north), camp is located 7.9 miles SOUTH of 3rd Ave in Ouray on Hwy 550 on the EAST side of the road. You'll turn left off 550. You will see the parking/camping area down a slight hill.

If you're coming from Silverton (or points south), camp is located 14.3 miles NORTH of Silverton. You'll turn right (EAST) and into the camp area. You will be able to see the area from the road through the aspen trees. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/37....53,-107.6913513,14z/data=!4m4!4m3!1m0!1m0!3e0

I will be monitoring 146.460 if you have HAM radio. You should receive an email with a few of our phone numbers on it, but we will not get service in camp. Going about 6 miles towards Ouray will get you 3g/4g though.

By this time next week, we'll be in camp sharing stories and watching a campfire! Travel safe and see you in Ouray!

Few days away and lots to do! Bet there are a bunch more out there wrenching up this weekend!:wrench:
Got the dual battery done, drawers are bare wood still but built all the way, changed all fluids and now that freebie Gamiviti rack from last years friday giveaway is having enhancement surgery to accommodate the RTT and some lights!
Crap, I'm flipping tired! Time for an adult beverage!
Excited for next week!

Thanks Stan, Jon, Chris, Josh and others who have put a ton of hard work into this event!

40-60% chance of rain Wednesday thru Thursday....looks like i am bringing scuba gear for the family....i have got to get a RTT.

@newbtrayback hopefully those are just passing storms! I did buy a new tube of seam sealer for the tent. Hopefully my $9.99 purchase is enough to keep the rain away.

Do any of the local have any good maps they recommend? I've got Avenza PDF and Maplets on the iPad, would like a comprehensive map of the area with all the trails is such a unicorn exists. I know we will be in well-led groups and not actually need the map, I just like to justify my fancy iPad setup :)

Thanks again to the organizers and all the other folks, we're leaving early tomorrow morning and super excited!

Has anybody started a shared google map with the routes taken by everybody like last year?

It's pretty common for us to have passing thunderstorms in the afternoons this time of year. It's very rare for it to rain all day. Those passing storms can be dangerous, so you'll want to take shelter if you're up high and thunder/lightening are present. A group of hikers was killed in Rocky Mountain National Park this year from a lightening strike. Don't take chances.

We will have a large tent/shelter provided by SleeOffroad for use during Friday Night's potluck and raffle. If it does rain that night, we will take shelter under the tent and proceed as planned. You should have rain gear (even just some ponchos) and warm clothing for hanging around camp at night. It will dip into the 40's-50's, especially after a rain. We can run all trails in the rain, even Black Bear. Our group came down the steps in the rain last year and that adds a little dash of spice to the run! We ran Poughkeepsie in the rain as well. It's doable, but we'll need to winch up the wall. If you don't have a winch, a solid winch point is fine and we'll haul you up! I promise you, you'll see plenty of sunshine while you're here. This is Colorado after all!

@jonharis is the map guru. @bluecruiser uses an iPad and a mapping app as well, they can provide better map info.

For basic map data I import from traildamage.com to GPSessentials on android. Lots of other options as well but thats what I like.

If you're using Aveza PDF make sure to dowload the relevent MVUM. It will show all legal vehicle routes for a given area.

Well, when I asked about Google map I meant the simple shared map to Ouray that we all loaded our routes to it. Just like we did last year and you can see the different routes taken by each truck (or group of trucks)

Sorry, there were a few different map questions.

We did not do an interactive map showing where each 100 was coming from this year. Honestly, we've been swamped. It's been a busy year for all of us. This event takes an enormous amount of time to organize even for it's size and we all have other endeavors right now. Josh won't be with us this year because he'll be in Alaska. Jonathan and I have been traveling/working and attending other events. He is one of the directors of the FJ Summit which is a massive undertaking, and I have come on board to help them wherever I can. I also serve as the Event Coordinator for Rising Sun. Chris is a full time playa and ladies man..... that's a full time job in itself. He's usually traveling up and down the beaches of California taking photos in a funny hat. Coordinating with the sponsors, submitting info to the Forest Service, promoting the event, organizing the logistics, shirts, gear, designs, trails...... it adds up quickly. So much so that we missed the registration of a GX470 into the event. None of us noticed until a few days ago. We've only ever pushed this as a 100 Series event and have turned away non-100s in the past and directed them to the FJ Summit as an all-Toyota/Lexus event. We just plain missed this one and we are not going to refund someone's money and tell them not to attend at this point.

All of this is behind us now...... the 4th Annual 100s in the Hills is just a few days away. The only thing we need to do now is meet in Ouray for a great time with new and old friends and enjoy the scenery! If anyone needs anything, please let us know. The Doodle trail list will be emailed tonight. If you think you'll be coming through Denver on your way, I'll be hosting a pre-event run and camp that will depart on Wednesday. https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/denver-to-ouray-100s-in-the-hills-route.809878/

anyone know of a decent mild to medium trail in the pagosa springs area? Headed there after HIH to meet my parents and my daughter at their house there in town, wouldn't mind getting a easy ride in Monday or Tuesday.

Specifically Elwood Pass, East Fork, etc? Will be by myself so nothing too tough...

Stan, I didn't expect you to set that up at all! I thought someone else did it last time!
And I think I speak for everyone here: Thank you guys a million times for all the effort to make it happen!

I know we covered this earlier, but this thread has gotten really long and there is a lot of information in here.

Please try to be in camp by 8:45am on Friday morning if you're running Friday trails. We plan on departing by 9:15-9:30am. This will give you time to collect your driver packet, meet your trail leader and sign the waivers.

Generally we try to leave camp by 9 or 9:30 each day.

Everyone should have received an email with a link to sign up for trails through the Doodle poll website. We know that things change and we will have limited flexibility for trail changes, etc. once we get to camp. Use the poll and please be patient if you would like to change something. Most of us will be traveling the next few days and we have limited connectivity to make changes. Don't worry guys, the trails will be awesome, regardless of what you end up doing. Thanks!! Hope everyone is excited for HIH4.
