@all - I did this swap several years ago on my FJ62 - It's been GREAT. EXCEPT - the bolts on the calipers keep backing out. I've replaced them multiple times... I'm starting to wonder if I'm using the wrong hardness type bolts??? The hardware store only carries #8 hardness bolts.

I've tried lock washers and high temp locktite - the bolt still backs out every couple months.

I actually stripped one bolt hole from over torquing it... had to drill out and rethread a size up, then added a hellicoil... same issue as the others. Its driving me nuts... Thoughts?

Did you notice the problem before the conversion?

You are sure that the bolts are backing out rather than stretching?

If the bosses on the calipers & knuckles aren't square to the rotors that *might* cause this problem. Maybe try a new caliper if you didn't have the problem before the conversion?

Sounds like you're using SAE bolts instead of metric? Since it sounds like you do not have the original bolts I would look for some 12.9 rated bolts in the original size. mcmaster.com is the easy button for those.

Are you torquing the bolts? If so, to what n-m or ft-lbs?

Some of these trucks came with locking plates for the caliper mounting bolts. Finding or making some of these might be an option.

Hardware store bolts was your first problem.. OEM bolts are like $3 each.
Sound's like something is stripped. Time for a time sert or helicoil the knuckle, or replace the knuckle, and get the CORRECT bolts. We have them in stock if you would like, we can also repair your knuckle if you want to mail it

Throw the hardware store bolts in the scrap and get OEM fixings.

Thanks Matt - lets start with a set of 6 bolts (incase I lose another). I have done a helicoil for one bolt already... will see if this does the trick. Also looking at your site, I see an Oil pressure adapter. I have a LM7 engine - guessing that'd work for me, right? Would like to see that gauge come back online... its been flat 14 years :)

Want to send me a PayPal invoice? Or what is your preferred method?

@cruisermatt or anyone else - Just want to confirm - Got the NEW bolts, but, should I use a washer too?

Read through several post threads on the 100's forum, didnt find much in the 60 forum though.

Use a standard washer?
Blue Locktite?
Torque @ 90ftlb?

Thanks!

There is a OEM large washer-type thing that bolts to the dust shield. 47787-60020 & 47786-60020

Thanks - Forgot I have a digital version on the FSM. Found these... Note the washer here.

That "washer-type" thing is long gone on mine. Will add some washers and Torque to 90ft-lb

Any opinion on the Blue Loctite?
