g'day fellas, 60 owner from aust, just a quick question about master cylinder size for the 4 runner calipers upgrade with 60 series standard calipers on the rear (four wheel discs). The T-100 is mentioned, but we don't have such a beast over here (aust) so was wondering if a toyota 1" master cylinder would do or do i have to go bigger

Good question

Plumma -

MC is a 1" bore. The one from the early FJ80 will work too. You should have that available. There is also a 1- 1/16" MC, from the 1-ton pickups, that will bolt up, but requires more plumbing.

However, since you have 4 - wheel disc, you might want to go with a later 80 series MC which is designed for disc front and rear application.

Thanks. My '74 Pig has a 1" bore MC from the 4 wheel drum days. I am contemplating going up to the 60 series rotors and hear about these calipers often.

I hope they would clear my stock steelies for 40/55 disc brakes...

I ran the V6 calipers with the stock FJ-60 m/c. Pedal effort was a little low, but not mushy or spongy. The all stock brakes on my '84 Mini-truck feel more mushy than they did. Assuming the same pedal effort (force) going bigger on the caliper pistons diameter increases the clamping force, going bigger on the m/c bore size decreases the clamping force. Doing both they nearly cancel each other out. I think that I did the math in the "Comments on Brakes" thread.

Stock 60 rotors.

If I were doing this again, I'd use the 4Runner MC from the same year as calipers instead of the T100.

What is the difference @Spike Strip? I thought the bore size is the same.

4 runner is 15/16". T100 is 1". 4r MC is closer to stock ratio if you want the same pedal feel. The 1" is firm, but fine for me.

Same size. It's been awhile, but I think you have to lose the small hard line when removing the backing plate. It also makes it way easier to remove the caliper when servicing.

the hole idea it's you been able to remove the caliper from the disc without disconnecting the brake line .. no bleeding !

I just did the 4-runner swap on a '90 FJ62 and I'm having trouble with the inboard brake pad bottoming out on the caliper mount leaving the pin holding the pads in place about 2mm off.

I'm using '95 4-runner calipers napa part se 2151 and 2152. 4-runner pads for that caliper on new stock land cruiser rotors. When you look from the top side of the caliper along the rotor you can see where the pad hits the caliper mount. It would be an easy trim with a grinder but I don't understand why it's not fitting without.

Any help will be much appreciated

Can you post a picture of the problem?

Not sure about the casting number. I'll check this am. I'm planning to go to the dealer and get remanufactured toyota ones and see if they work.

I got is sorted out. It was a moment of idiocy at the end of a long day. I didn't realize the inboard and outboard pads were different. They were shrink wrapped with the two same type stacked on top of one another. I just broke the shrink wrap in half and stuck them in resulting in two of the same kind on one side.

Thanks for the help

Had a bad rt. caliper so decided to take the plunge and install 4Runner calipers, new rotors, and the backing plate eliminators I got from Mark Algazy of marksoffroad.net .

Purchased Reman Toyota Calipers for '95 4Runner V6 - Part # 47750-35090-84, and 47730-35090-84 (Rh, Lh)

New caliper bolts & washers, spring clips, disc pads and shims.

Mountain Rotors - Made in Japan - and to the best of my knowledge are OEM. (Just say no to Chinese Rotors). Purchased online from partsgeek.com

Are those rotors 4 runner rotors or fj60 rotors?
