Engine has been running warm and I haven't had time to mess with it until now. I got the carb rebuilt, switched out the temperature gauge for a mechanical one, and my buddy help set timing tonight. Cruising at 190 which made me happy, I've never had it run that cool. The engine feels way better after that carb rebuild too.

Nice... Mine seems happy at 190. My electric fan kicks on at that temp then stays on for a min or so then kicks back off. I plan on putting my fool injection back on soon.

My timing seems happy at 35 ish total timing. 10-12 initial.

I'm just running a flex fan. I figure it's Arizona and all summer is 110 degrees.

a 454 is a huge engine. Dad had a merc on loan. He got in it one morning and started it up. He stupidly did not allow the engine to get up to oil pressure before gunning it, and the con rod shot right thoug the pan. Lots of sparks.

The thing was a big gas hog. Why not go with something that is smaller and better fuel economy?

Go big or go home. :)

Everyone has their thing. I did a 454 because it cost me like 2500 bucks so it was fairly cheap, and I thought it was cool. With a quadrajet carb it gets about the same mileage that the 2f did and has more than twice the horsepower and loads more torque, so in my mind it's a huge improvement over the 2f which I hated.

What radiator?

I put the radiator out of the donor truck in there. I had to fab up special brackets for it and trim the clip a couple inches on each side but it had the tranny cooler built in so I wanted to use it.

There is no replacement for displacement. If you ever drive a 350hp small block and then drive a 350hp big block back to back you will know....

I am biased though I couldn't stand having a forklift motor under the hood either and tossed that boat anchor. If your engine's mileage is going to suck it might as well have some balls. My 2f never got me 10-12 around town and 13 on the highway if I kept it around 60, which is lame. If I rapped it out I got about 10 and couldn't make much more than 72mph.

What happens when you thought you made your slip yoke a fixed yoke, but it turns out you were wrong and it wasn't a sealed fixed yoke conversion....you get a trip to the junkyard and transfer case parts all over. On a positive note, I'm happy I coated my garage floor half way through the engine swap.

hehe. Nice coating. My Dad's garage sure could use that. He refused to do it when it was empty. Now its full of car parts :hillbilly:

I really wanted that one off "custom" look on the interior of my landcruiser. As if a huge gap in my floorboard wasn't enough, I found this shifter knob at o'reilly for 12 bucks. Steal! The hole got pretty big when I was trying to adjust the throw of the np205 shifter lever, I haven't gotten around to fixing it....

I also installed a tach finally so I could actually know what rpms i'm running at.

76 feet but with the skull shifter that has increased the wheelie distance by at least 10%. It's a pretty essential performance mod.

heck yea...

So, what was the final drivetrain setup? Obviously the 454, what trans, T-case, axles, gear ratio? I'm honestly thinking the big block with 35" tires and the stock 3.70s may be pretty sweet. I may even elect to do it some day.

Right now it's a turbo 400 to an np205 to a 14 bolt with 3.7 gears. I have 33s on there, need 35s because the 33s look retarded with spring over and a body lift. It does good up to about 70 mph. Past that the engine is revving beyond where I like it.
