Did anyone ever get a new set of 45 soft top bows started in the last year that are for sale?
Been contemplating building a set for my cab. Hate to start something that is available already.
Any?
Just finishing up on the half doors from some steel I had left over. Would work nice with a rag top.

Picture found on Mud of frame.

i know the truck in the pic with the soft top bows very well. i will copy them/ the bows when i get mine done.. mainly cause i now where that 45 lives and have access to it... i even have a couple dead hardtops for the door pillars waiting.. but far as i know nobody has done a soft top kit. the one in your pic uses the rope channel which i am not a fan of. my plan in the far future is a plastic strip like a tigertop. i think it would be easiest with a tubing bender and 40 soft top front window retainer. building one from scratch is probably your best bet..

Reworking an old set of paki bows and top for mine. I like the rope channel cause it seems to help sure things up. Making lower half removable. I'll post some pics bows pretty close and canvas cut for top half etc.

Me and Todd from real steel should have this up and running in a month. Doing a cover that will match the cab as well. Zip up windows front and back and two roll up window panels on each side. Cab will also have a roll up window in the back and quarter windows. My project .

Wow, I think I am going to be into a new project. I am starting to look for some door pillars also and covert them to were they will except that incased plastic strip in the reinforced canvas as tornadoalleycruiser has mentioned. I am trying to remember were I saw those channels for sale. I don't see were it can be difficult to make even without the stock door pillars. The hole thing is pretty basic it just setting up all the angles and dangles.
I have a friend that makes folding boat tops for Weld Craft and others alike. I believe he will be a wealth of information on tubes and parts.
I can feel the starting of a new wave of soft tops coming. Trollhole what is the cost of the product? I only find the 40 and 45 troopy.
Good stuff, cheers.

IDave had a Paki top for his 45. Not sure if he ever installed it. You might be able to borrow it for reference in order make yours, he's up in McCall. I generally just run a bikini top from late spring through early fall and put the hard top on in the winter.

Owyhee, can you call you friend to see if he has that kit to view. I just got the half doors completed and now I am pretty sure I want to build a top.
I will PM you. Thanks

I would like to build a soft top for mine as well but having a rollover would be a major concern. The bows would have to be substantial steam pipe welded to a piece of 2 by 1/2 inch flat bar mimicking the base of the hard top so it can be unbolted and removed in winter.

That's an interesting thought, may consider the same for the safety side of things.
Nice

The safest way would be to try and tie the windscreen into the soft top frame for the added strength with both supporting each other. They could be tied in with the upper stock two piece door jams bolted in place or fab some soft top rails to bolt to the stock windscreen location. The stronger the better in my book.

I emailed him, he still has it and you're welcome to look at it. I have an FST Troopy and am in Boise, if you want to look at it, you can as well.

I would think the safest thing to do would to buy a different vehicle if you're looking for the safest ride. Or second put a roll cage in the cab and deal with less space. Or maybe add a roll cage in the bed behind the headache rack. Or just do what everyone in the 60's did and roll with it.

"That's a fact (Marshal) Jack" Like we say at the Firehouse- "If your Scared, Call the Police- They have guns!" LOL

if any other measurements are needed, real steal products in Ill makes bow kits for 40s and 45s, just an fyi....
