I've used black RTV.

No leaks from mine...yet.

Clean the surfaces extremely well. I cleaned mine with acetone.

Make sure when you put the rtv on, you do not fully torque the bolts until about 4-5 min.

Oh, and I think I used gray RTV, not black.

Dad saw a Green 68 ish 40 very stock looking for sale in Laurel.

Well the 73 sold for $18-$19k according to dad. He said the guy also has a 76-77 he is asking mid 20's for.

Dad says this is a new used car dealer. Salesman is Larry Johnson.

located on HWY 15 North at about 3836 physical address......it's across from old Horne Nursery in Laurel.

I am waiting on pics of 76/7

This one popped up and my friend was on it and a neighbor got it first.

Hattiesburg. Mint. $16,000

So sad he missed it.

Might not be that mint.

I like to play devil's advocate.

I see:

Black paint all over the undercarriage, including bumper. (Big red flag). What's hiding?

I see shiny paint with rust popping up in the normal places. (Another red flag, indicating possible quick and dirty paint over)

I also spot an upside down bezel. Why? Common thought is that it indicates someone doing a resto where they might not know what they were doing.

Not saying it's not worth $16k but....

What I would want is a complete 40 where I can see everything; where there is obvious rust, but it's not being hidden by the owner with rattle canned paint.

I realize that's getting harder to find these days, but there are far too many 40's showing up on the market that had quick and dirty restos done trying to do a quick flip.

Hell, I don't want a "new" 40 either. I certainly don't want one that's been "restored" already and where the entire undwrcarriage has been painted. Not for $16k at least; far too much risk.

If you say so
