I haven't ordered bumperettes yet. You have some? I was just in Des Moines last night. Picked up a hardtop and a couple sets of ambi doors. I am getting going to be ready here very soon. 7 days or less.

Regarding the rear hatch I have to customize something for the hinges. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. I may be down there again this weekend. Going to look at a 75 LC in southern Iowa. Wanna go?

What is up with the roll bar...it doesn't seem to sit correctly...
The rear legs aren't bolted down yet. I ran out of JIS nuts and bolts and want them to match inside the cabin. Many attempts to contact 'davework' and he isn't getting back to me. I'm going to order some from the local parts store so I can get those bolted down correctly (its just hanging there as you can see) and then install the rear jump seats.

4/28/11 : Update on the bolt issue. Davework and I figured something out. Special Ordering bolts directly from the manufacturer so that all bolts match correctly.

let me know when you're coming through on sat... yes I have a couple sets of bumperettes, also have a coffee can or two of each size proper bolts after raiding Mr Tarnow's stash. Also have a hatch and the rear top crossbar part you'd need, but not looking necessarily to sell. Maybe.

Probably can't get away to tag along and see that one down south (assuming its the one on CL)... looks like its probably worth it for the price. Let me know though, would like to to if I can.

You need to meet the guy close to me here that is just finishing a 3.3 cummins deisel into a 72 fj40, will give you some ideas...

I already have the hatch. Painted and ready for assembly. I will probably just fabricate the top bar to make it work. But I am interested in the bumperettes. I've got some stuff from Matt rolling in tomorrow. A couple side marker lights. Then will get those along with the rear tail lights wired up. I am ordering some aftermarket seat belts then will be able to drive down and see you and that bada$$ cummins FJ40. or is it a Bj now? Yeah its the one on CL

No they are not. They are intentionally installed this way.

Weagle99 I don't think you have read this entire build up. Everything on this truck is custom. To a non purist it looks like a factory FJ40. However being its a 78 frame and powertrain with 72/73 body panels and square tube bumper I'm trying to make look factory. I've looked at the lights right side up and upside down and I prefer the way they are mounted. Its a preference thing for me. All in all when this truck is finished it will 'look' factory but won't be factory. The next truck I am building will be a 79 FJ40. It will not have mixed and matched parts. I have a box of new parts ready to roll on that project. I am learning from this project. This truck will be very nice when its done but there are things I won't repeat when I build my 79. All the guys who build these trucks know you have to start somewhere.

Fair enough. Good luck with the remainder of your build.

This weekend I am tightening everything up on the cruiser. At this point just waiting for parts. Pics to follow. After I get all this done I will be doing my first shake down run the following weekend. There's quite a bit to do but this is what's on my plate this weekend.

Here's whats on the agenda :
1) Check wires to horn and make sure that's working
2) Tighten up ebrake
3) Install new plugs and wires and cap/rotor
4) Wire up rear tail lights and side marker lights. Already installed just need to be attached to wiring harness
5) Install aftermarket 3 pt seat belts from Summit Racing
6) Install 5 wheel studs
7) Wire up windshield wipers
8) Install new drive belts
9) Fab rear hatch beam to fit rear hatch and install/align rear hatch.

Weekend goals always look great on paper. I really enjoy working on these 40's so the 18 hours I have getting my list accomplished was well worth it.

Items 1 and 2 were a breeze. We cleaned the connectors for the horn and that is working well and also adjusted the ebrake and tested and that is working well.

Also plugs/wires/cap and rotor were no big deal. Actually funny thing is the cap/rotor we replaced was pretty new looking and the plugs were new looking as well. I'm saving those for a rainy day.

Item number 4 however was a different issue. As you all know with wiring it can be a breeze but most of the time its a PITA. Twelve hours spent on the wiring alone. We hooked up the rear tail lights and pulled the lights on and the turn signal lights were bright (like when blinking bright). Then we checked all wiring in the front and it was correct. Checked all wiring in the back and found that the factory OEM tail lights were a two wire and not a 3 wire like on the factory wiring harness. So Mike had the idea of using a 3 wire 2 lamp application we found at O'Reillys. I will post some pics of this. Entirely fabbed and sealed. Pretty cool. I was impressed.

All the time Mike spent hunting down and testing the wires worked well. We also wired up the windshield wipers and they work correctly on low/high speeds. Also all wires and connectors are carefully shrink wrapped and weather proofed and zip tied out of the way. Looks really great.

Installed New OEM Toyota bumper last night. Used carriage bolts and looks great!!!

Went to pull the 40 out of the barn and was trapped! :bang:

I've put a hatch in place of ambulance doors... PM me if you've got questions or problems.

@bikersmurf : The rear hatch is already installed. I am hunting around for the interior/exterior handle. Other than that I'm good to go. Forgot to add pics.
