Thank you Chris!

@Tucker74 : No top coat yet. Not finished with parts of the frame. Thanks for the reminder though!

Just to update this build I have been talking with a MUD member about possibly buying my 1973. Since I've been concentrating on the 78 Restoration there was no need for two FJ40's so I decided to part with my 73. This gentleman and I have exchanged over 70 emails to make sure this truck was the right fit for him. I'm sure you'll be seeing a build thread soon as he's planning to continue the restoration on this truck. I know the details and its going to be B.A. but its his truck now so I'll let him share his buildup.

The 73 was my very first purchase with some close friends of mine and it will be missed but glad its going to a good home and a fellow MUD member.

So the journey continues with the 78. and 's

Nice looking build. This has come together so fast. Where in Iowa are you? I'm enjoying all your pics and such
Just two hours north of ya in Mason City!!! I'm coming down in a couple of weeks to kick it with Eric for a shakedown run. You should bring your 77 and we should cruise!!!

Would love to if I'm finished with my work on her. Redoing the brakes, TRE's knuckle rebuild, etc. Waiting on parts right now and learning as I go, which takes longer than you guys who have exp doing this. However, it's all I want to do when I get home from work! Some folks think I'm crazy. I'll be in touch

Well I'll stop by when I'm down there and meet ya and swill a beer with ya!!!

With alot of research and price comparisons I went with the 235-75-15 Tall/Skinny BFG Mud Terrains.

Got the wrong size nuts but will fix that Saturday.

Before you even say it I like white letter out. Some purist and bezel police disagree but then again this is my build.

'78 is the only year to have 4:11s and fine-spline pinions.

looks GREAT to me :)

why not have gone with the 30x9.5r15's arent they just a tad larger in height and same width? than the 235/75r15

was the price difference that much? or availablility?

not trying to bust balls ...just wondering

..... but then again this is my build.

the best part is that you can go soooo many different directions...and change directions as well :)

I had RWL for awhile...wagon wheels, oem 15's and now oem splits...and the rim colors have changed many times ... its all about the mood :D

I think 'MywifesaidnoFJ and you pointed me to the tire time page which lead into other interesting pages. I think on my next build I will go slightly larger, but since they are mounted I'm a full blown owner.

Probably will drive this one over the summer and work out the kinks and sell it after I get a few thousand miles on it and restore the 79 thats buried in my brothers barn. I'm thinking 4 inch lift and 33 talls on that truck. I need to get this one done first though.

I appreciate all the comments you guys rock. For being a newb and not knowing what the heck I'm doing you guys have been great from a research point of view.

Here's a couple pics of putting on the tail gate and I'm missing a piece and don't know what goes here. Help me out. Have a great weekend as well.

Its long gone my friend. CCOT has them or you can make your own out of angle iron.

I have done alot to my Cruiser this week.

1) Fit the hard top sides
2) Installed the rear half doors (need a couple bolts yet
3) Painted and installed the factory roll bar.

4) Bought Garage Door weather stripping and fit and installed the hard top. Used a sodering iron to line the holes up and that worked very well. 9 foot roll of weather stripping and a cutting tool and tape cost $32. Have not tested it yet.
5) Pulled the hardtop sides off and put the hardtop together so that everything would line up properly. Tried doing it on the truck and it was a PITA so pulling everything off and bolting it together is the way to go.
6) Having a fitment problem with the hardtop going into the b pillar holes. Stepping away for a while to think about how to correct this issue. Any ideas would be helpful.

Last week I have been working on cutting down the rear bumper to install the factory tail lights.

Here's some pics of the rear tail lights.

I had the rear bumper cut down and capped. I have carriage bolts running through the bumper and think it gives it a factory look.

I'm going to use the carriage bolts on the bumperettes when they come in so I have flow and uniformity on the look of the rear bumper.
