Would that have the same gearing as my '78 40?

Different bellhousing.

The H42 would bolt up to either bellhouse, but unless Steve's 4spd was toast there wouldn't be much point in dickering around with innards in a late-era FJ60 4spd, even if it was free. Late-era FJ60 4spds have a value of about a boat anchor (because they only fit 1 application in the US) unless someone needs to quickly swap out a bad unit for a working one on the cheap. Most go for the H55F upgrade given how easy they are to get now. (I have the dubious distiction of having the first H55F C-Dan sold through American - and it wasn't even imported, he found it in the cobwebs of some dealership in Florida and it was there because of a shipping error or something.)

Now an H41 into Steve's rig would be sweet.

Yep, I would love an H41...

Save your pennies. Th H41 in my 45 will making room for the H55f I have sitting in the box... At my rate though, it will be a new decade before I get to it...

You know, because you just *needed* to know than an H41 would be for sale locally someday sooner or later...

Dan

Yep, and the size of "locally" seems to be expanding...

....no one needs a free 4 speed. To the bone yard it goes.

I've got a spare H42 also, taking up shop space at my place in Texas.

Hmmm? I might be interested, been thinking about going to a split case so this might help my situation. Would like an H55 but no money kind of rules that out for now.

Anyone know if the AA V8 bell housing for a '75 4 speed would work with this 4 speed?
