Put mine in today and they sounded pretty good. Instead of the spacers I just layered up 3 layers of dynamat and it worked great!

How do I get to those little speakers in the dash? Now I want to replace them too, although probably not going to make any difference.

scrowley - Good idea using dynamat instead of spacers. Did you keep the stock grill, or did you cut it out and use the pioneer grill? Just curious as I stayed with factory grill and my door panel doesn't go on as perfectly as I think it should.

Sorry forgot to take pictures. I just cut some small pieces and layered it up by the screw, that also counts as speaker isolation right? Guess I could of done the entire rim/contact area but didn't think of it till after I was done.

Yes I kept the factory grill, 3 layers seems to be just right, 4 was too much to fit the factory grill/door panel.

can you, or any one else for that matter, post up some pics of the factory grills with spacer behind them?

I'm looking to upgrade the stereo soon as well, and I think your method is a good option. I don't want to cut in to the factory door panel, and I also don't want to lose the factory grill. I'm also not willing to compromise on sound quality as far as a shallow mount speaker.

I've also been considering some box mounted 6x9s with extended speaker wire in the rear for when I'm out camping/sitting around the camp fire. Has anyone used a similar setup?

Thanks!
