They should make it. I always wondered why all the auto companies let Jeep have a monopoly on the Wrangler. Look at the Suburban as an example. Chevy had that market completely to themselves until Ford came out with the Expedition which while it was a little smaller it still was along the same lines as the Suburban. Since then Toyota, Nissan and others have joined the market and you see tons of these vehicles on the road. I bet if Toyota sold a modern day FJ40 they would sell enough to make it worth there while.

The Icon was another design entry for the new FJCruiser. With all the great entries I'm not sure how they came up with the eyesore that is the current FJ. I think this one was perhaps too close to the original for Toyota's relaunch of the FJ series.

That 4 door one is awesome!

Since the Rod Millen version isn't available, that Icon 4 door would make my list of purchases if I hit the lottery. Would be cool with a hard top.

I may get flamed here but how about mixing the Jeep and Land Cruiser lines. 100 series reliability and power with iconic American design.

Put your 100 series mechanicals under the body of a Grand Wagoneer.

Jeep Wagoneer is a nice ride ... for a Jeep.

rumor has it the 45 on the 80 chassis was a $350,000 build.

Gary Kardum (AKA Mudrak in cruiser circles) drives an FJ45 with an 80-series frame and suspension:
YouTube - Mudrak running Little Sluice during Rubithon 2010

Gary's the local cruiser expert in the Northbay of CA, and seeing his shop, and his products were part of the process of my becoming a Toyota die-hard.

 I think it's a great idea and I'm looking forward to seeing pics of the build.

The LX and FJ45 are in the same yard. Let the fun begin.

I think that was what they were going for with the FJ Cruiser <fail>:frown:

I hate to say it - Jeep is killing it with the Rubicon Unlimited. It is "cool" and that is basically all that matters. Lifted with 35s and they are everywhere now. They need a turbo diesel. If that happens, I may go look at one.

With what they come with from the factory I have to admit the Rubicon, especially with its redisgned interior, is hard to beat for the price and they hit it on the head as an offroad car for the masses. Of course its still a jeep and everyone has one.

still if i had that much to spend id probably build up a "low mileage" 80

Well then some genius at Toyota forgot to add the removal top to the design.

I think you mean Gary Waggoner, not Mudrak Gary.

I've seen Gary Waggoner's build, but I could've sworn Mudrak's was on n 80, too. It's been a few years since I'me last seen it, I'm probably just confused.

actually, I should have watched the video I posted to refresh my memory; I'm seeind Danas and leaves...

Because, except for a few niche drivers, few people want removable top rigs. Most of the heeps around here are sold with those awful paper-mache hard tops on 'em.
Why produce a removable top if maybe a third of the buyers would use them?

Jeep's only around because it's Chrysler's only brand that's making money.
