Kevin, you got it right, as long as it set up right. I think that is what I was getting at to begin with. I am not looking at what is "internet knowledge" but common knowledge. Set it up right from the begining and you should be fine. Just do your homework b4 you buy and see what works for what you want your truck to do.

Here's some interesting info about gears, although mini truck based:

http://gearinstalls.com/410suck.htm

I'm thinking that people think 4.10s are strong and 5.XX are weak because Toyota techs know how to set up gears, and greasy guys missing teeth who say they know, most of the time don't........

Most of the 315/75/16 tires I have seen the spec sheets on claim to have between 598 and 605 revolutions per mile.

interesting thing is that works out to 34" diameter, which I think more 315's are closer to that than 35's.

4th gear in a 343 is .753 to 1 so that makes it ~2,756 RPM at 75 mph in OD, with a locked converter..

Hummm.... I was searching for the OD ratio earlier and found .765.... I'll believe your # instead though

i run 4.38s in my truck and have 38.5 boggers i wouldnt want to put lower gears cause i have plenty of power and i wouldnt want the rpms to be higher. im at 3000 rpm doing 55 miles an hour. a lower gear would be rediculous.

Just picked up my third members from Taylor Axel Works in placerville went with the 488 and ARB air lockers.

Very much looking forward to experiencing my 80 with this gear set and 35s.

The scope of this project also includes stripping the axles down to bare metal and refreshing everything.

Special thanks to
Taylor Axle Works in Placerville

@cruiseroutfit has also been great for my axle kits, koyo bearings, and new Birfs.

@NLXTACY ordered that sweet factory locker switch ARB integration kit, looking forward to working this baby up !!!

I'll report back on the experience and thoughts on the 4:88 setup.

Are they noisy at all or quiet as the stock gears
I haven't installed them yet but I'll report back once they're in. I can't imagine they'd be whiny, is this a thing you've heard about?

Iv installed nitro gears and all new bearings and it was noisy so i changet to another brand motive gears and they were better but you notice a little bit of a wine . Thinking about going back to standard gears now as i really dont want to keep buying diffrent gears
