I have searched the forum and have not been about to find the exact information and answers that I am needing.
I recently pulled my rear 3rd member out of my 76 fj40 because my pinion bearings were bad. I have replaced my bearings and I have reassembled the 3rd member.
The part that I am stuck on is how to adjust the gears to the right specs. I have never messed with a ring and pinion before.
I don't know the name of the part but its the piece on both sides that is threaded and screws into the side of the ring gear assembly ( the axles go through this cylinder/cap looking piece with holes all in it)
It looks to me like you adjust these pieces on both sides of the rear end to maybe tighten up or loosen the spider gears?
I know that this description sounds like a 16 year old girl trying to describe it hahaha but thats the best that I could come up with!
I hope someone can shed some light on this problem for me.
Thanks
Barry
