Raft, Fish, Repeat! The Ark is a very forgiving river for fly fishing if you're just learning. I just passed there yesterday and the river is in great shape. Should be a blast! Zip Lining has become really popular there too. I've never done that, but it looks like fun.

It's normally worth the drive to go see the Royal Gorge too, but wildfire destroyed everything. Such a shame. Hopefully everything will reopen at some point.

Not sure how to tactfully ask this, but here it goes.....

I understand "everything", including human waste needs to leave with us. In earlier posts, I saw recommendations to bring (for lack of a better term coming to mind) poo bags or hold it for a few days.

I'm new to the whole primitive camping thing and am planning on bringing my 9 YO son with me. I'll do most anything for my kids, but am struggling with having to hold the bag for him. Is there some kind of device we should bring for this?

Since everything is leaving with us, what do most folks do with the used bags until there is a trip into town? And, once in town, is it acceptable to just drop the use bags in a trash receptacle?

I'm cringing as I type this, but would like to be prepared.

Research PET toilets if you want a good one...

As for the bags, they'll clip onto the potty. You can snag a box in the same aisle as the loo http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-Double-Doodie-Bags/14550463 All you'll need to do for the boy is load up a fresh bag and tell him to have at it, he'll be able to seal it up himself.

The bags have two bags in one- the inner contains some powder stuff that somehow neutralizes the contents to be safe to dispose of in the trash, then the outer bag is double insurance it won't leak or smell. Best method I've found is load one up, then stick it in paflytyer's Trasharoo when he's not looking.

No shame...... I am a private pooper!. There will be portable toilets set up. Im not 100%, but because of the number of participants, the area we'll be in may have pit toilets (think nice outhouse) if not, It's a good idea to grab some " wag bags". As for after disposal, the gel in the bags breaks down the waste and it is acceptable to throw the bag way. There are no fast food bathrooms in Ouray, but there are other campgrounds in the area that have pit toilets that you can run to. And wipes.......you can never have too many.

Touché...... The old "Poo in the Roo" trick! Well played......I'll drive to the Hot Springs Pool and Fitness Center and pay my $2 surcharge for the privilege of a flusher. Maybe a double flusher depending on my gluten intake.

Of course fishing and rafting, but there are a ton of hiking possibilities just outside of Buena Vista in the Sawatch Range. There are 15 14'ers with varied levels of difficulty and plenty of other trails if that is too much. I know everyone wants to stay away from the Aspen/Vail scene, but Independence Pass is just around the corner. It is better in the fall but still a really nice drive down into Aspen. Nothing like we'll see in the San Juan's though...

If we are going to the area we went to the first year, which I think we are there are no toilets.

The folding toilet would be a nice addition to the type of camping we'll be doing, but in the back country we just use WAG BAGs: http://www.rei.com/product/662978/cleanwaste-wag-bag-waste-bags-package-of-12
light, easy to use and disposable. There is no shame, do your thing hold onto the waste and toss at your earliest convenience. Optimally everyone who has a spare tire mount will have their own trasharoo: http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/products_scepter.htm so this might limit the recon "Poo in someone's Roo" attempts.

Oh another point, those that are bringing animals, please bring the appropriate bags and clean up after them as well. I realize at the camp site the dogs will be running around, but try to be cognizant and watch them, it only takes a second to pick it up and no one wants to step in fresh doggie poo...

I bought a trasharoo for this very reason. I didn't want poo bags sitting inside my vehicle for any amount of time! I have what amounts to a 5 gallon bucket with a toilet seat on the top. And just got a "privacy tent" that holds up a solar shower and is big enough to put the bucket crapper in the corner also. It's kind of a PITA to set up, but it would be better than pooping on a bucket without privacy! This was a pretty decent concern for me too. So much so, that I bought the trasharoo and shower tent just for this trip.

Just a quick question about itineraries for the days in Ouray. Are things planned for everyday? Something planned all day? I mean as a group. Or will it be something like a ride during the day then back to camp to hang out? I guess I mean, will there things going on at camp while we are there? And another thing about camp, will we need to break down camp each time we leave to go on a ride or into town? This will greatly influence what I bring. If I can setup camp and leave everything setup until its time to go home vs. having to break everything down to go on a ride...it will get very minimalist quick!

Group trail runs will be planned everyday with the exception of a fishing option for one of the days. Depending on the trails, conditions and how quickly we get everyone through, some groups might make it back to camp before others. People can stay at camp if they wish, but there shouldn't be anything going on at camp during the runs and you will miss why you made the long trip. You do not need to break camp every morning. Those with RTT's obviously will have to, this is why I put my RTT on a trailer. You can leave camp as is, just make sure to store food in your vehicle or a bear proof (ish) container while we are gone. Where the site is, I doubt to see bears, but small animals will get inside your tent if food is accessible. Make sure to dispose of wrappers and anything with a scent properly. I would advise to tell kids not to eat inside your tent. Nothing to be afraid of, but I have seen people leave camp with food wrappers inside their tents and return to small holes in tent walls and doors that were chewed through by little critters.

With this trip becoming (and may be) one of the largest 100 Series runs, It would be awesome to get some Decals, or little plaque's made..

I know the FJ Cruiser folks do there annual summit meet decals etc, Would be cool to have something similar for the Hundred Series event.. Or like the TLCA little dash plaques..


I realize were a little pressed for time at this point, Anyone have an "IN" with a decal shop?

Jon, or any other original "100's in the hills" ateendees have any ideas here? I obviously would not want to step on toes with the original few who started this great tradition..

We'll be leaving up on Thursday from Albuquerque around 9-10ish (as soon as I finish up some work in the AM).

That's about when I'm planning to leave as well. Do you want to caravan? Anyone else passing through Albuquerque on Thursday morning want to join us? I'm planning for a lunch stop in Bloomfield or Aztec. There are a few fast-food choices in either location or I may just make some sammiches.
