Well, everything else is removed or out of the way on my '91 FJ80 for engine replacement ...but I can NOT get to the top four main bolts on the engine!!! How in the heck do you get these out without dropping the tranny and everything else?!? Help pleases!!!!!

Lower the transmission/transfer case a few inches by pulling the support out and letting them down on a jack. Then you can reach those bolts with several extensions on your socket set. BT%DT. John

Lots of extensions, and wobblies, a friend above helps to guide you in from below. Or a mechanic's inspection camera if you are on your own. Its a juggle either way and not fun! I've been as far back as the muffler trying to get a clear shot at the top ones.

Great advice! Pretty much had to just drop engine and tranny all the way down to get to them.....only one problem.......very last one (top driver's side) main bolt head stripped!!!!! Reeeeeeeeally hoping an easy-out will grab it and get it (after heat applied obviously), otherwise I'm pulling entire drivetrain as one....ugh. Thanks for the info though guys!!!

I recently replaced the engine in my 92 and we used a fork lift to pull the whole drive train it was very sketchy to say the least. I will say that the effort was worth it, she runs better than I imagine and I didn't think the old engine ran that bad and it was on its death bed.
