Other things I rememberd:

IPF headlight inserts with 80/130's
Upgraded headlight loom
Diff/gearbox breathers
Made up a rear light bracket to fit on the tyre carrier and mounted a 30watt LED bar to it, wired to a switch or comes on when in reverse.

A fairly late pic of the car:

Fantastic! You don't mess around - impressive list of PMs and mods!

I didn't know the 3FE was an option in Australia.

New 3FE Owner

Hello,

I'm a proud new owner of a 1992 FJ80. I've always wanted a Landcruiser and finally I had the opportunity to trade my Land Rover for one. It has been about two months since I picked it up and in that time I've:

Rebuilt the front axle/birfield/steering knuckle
Replaced the carpet
Installed new catalytic converters and O2 sensors
Learned the hard way that the black cover on the AFM is not meant to be removed
Baselined/changed fluids
Changed PCV Valve
Replaced vacuum caps
And a few other miscellaneous PM tasks

The only 3FE specific work I've done is adjusted the little gold screw on the front of the EFI to reign in the idle.

The truck runs good and although it still needs TLC, it feels stronger and more solid/capable than my LR that was 8 years newer. I love the 3FE and the basic design of the truck. I'd love if it had manual windows and locks. The less electric and computer controlled the better. I hope to enjoy the truck for many years to come.

One other thing... I could not have done the steering knuckle rebuild without IH8MUD. In fact, I would not have even pulled the trigger on the land cruiser if it weren't for you all. Knowing I can find any information and support I need has been invaluable and given me the confidence to take on repairs I would otherwise pay through the nose for.

Thanks to all of you who contribute and have blazed the trail before me!

91 with 201,686 on body, less than 4k on rebuild. Bought it for 1600, have put another 1000 into it. It came with a rebuilt motor, and it was professionally done. lots of little things done to it so far, partially desmoged, needs new Ujoints, and some other things to be great. This is my first LC, always liked them. I've been more the 20r-22r fan, I've got a 77 Celica RA29 with a built hybrid. I'm still learning about the 3fe, but so far I've really come to respect it. I do wish it was easier to adjust the valves, but a small price to pay for the reliability. One downside; my sunroof doesn't work anymore, but I can still let the light in(sounds like a somewhat common failure).

Location: Bellingham WA

Cheers,
Jason

1997 FJ80 Bought 2 months ago. 3 inch lift changing all the fluids in gathering parts for a complete tune up

Welcome, although you do not have a 3FE, you have a 1FZ, and a FZJ80, not FJ80. Nice looking rig, looks clean.

Hello mam toyota fj 80 3FE year 1991 I have a problem with charging to recharge a little idle 12.0 V after adding just turns around 1000rpm recharged 14.1 V alternator checked, new battery cable from the alternator also ok I'm clueless thank you:confused:

Hey Gerge - Sorry to hear about your electrical gremlin. I would say start with the basics - new cables? Are they tightened properly? Battery in good shape? You might want to try posting your question in the straight 80s Tech Section as you're likely to get more responses. This 3fe thread can be a bit slow... just like our trucks.

Welcome!

1992 stock for now! 240k and running well.

Best pic in this entire thread! You really came out of the gate running, Amigo.

Welcome.
