I took my 3fe on my first weekend trip to the trails up north in MI UP. I was pleasantly suprised with how well it hit 70 and maintained 65 up hills while loaded with gear. I am not at all disappointed with performance. I really like the old...

As is my habit, I had that thought directly afterwards. 🤪

You should have video'ed yourself moving it. Impressive to move it without a hoist!

My son's dune beige 92 with classic white top. Painted in my garage with PPG base coat and clear. Inside doors, hood and jams were done. Colors were: dune beige and white top; satin clear black hood black out, mirrors and moldings; gloss...

Wise man once told me we learn more from our failures than our victories. I had a similar experience with my first 700r4 rebuild. Ended up fixing it somehow by removing and cleaning the valve body 4 times. This was 15 years ago and to this day...

Tried and failed to purchase a 2-Ton engine hoist, so since I need to return my Father-in-law's trailer, I engineered this 3FE ike an ancient Egyptian, got it upright and stable, off the trailer and onto a dolly without hurting myself.

True statement, though I call it a highly educational failure. Short version - After a weird lurch and terrible burning smell, truck wouldn't go in 1st or reverse. Pulled the trans, did the full rebuild, confirmed the fried 1st/Reverse clutch...

When you say tried to rebuild i'm guessing it didn't go well?

Hey there. Looking for the '91-92 3FE exhaust Y-pipe just downstream from the cats. Thanks!

After replacing the valve cover gasket a few weeks ago in my 92 LC, I decided I would dig a little deeper into the 3FE and replace the pushrod cover gasket. The engine was covered with a thick layer of sludge, and after 17 years the gasket was...

100%! Plus, it'll be a thrill to put the money I save refreshing this one instead of buying a reman into a rear bumper if I pull it off! As an aside, you're talking to a guy who tried to rebuild his A440F in his garage, so I'm very much a...

Excited to have this donor. Planning to evaluate and hoping to swap this in for my knocking original with almost 250k. This one was supposedly running good and with under 100k miles when it was pulled, so fingers crossed!

I always use OEM donuts and hardware. Same goes for my LX450. O2 sensors were OEM or Denso equivalent.

Jon, looking at these now for Vera, looks simple enough, but are you saying you pick up new Toyota gaskets and skip the ones that ship with the cats? Did you get the O2 sensors from this same company? Thanks!

All makes sense, appreciate the input! I was already going to pick up a 2-ton stand for the check & refresh process. And a 2t crane. I was just confused about mounting the starter from watching a Youtube. This guy had to kluge up the mount...

You could crank the engine with the starter but it would have to be bolted to some sort of stand.

Nice! So evaluate with... Compression test Leakdown test Check valve train for sludge Pull oil pan Inspect Measure main & rod bearing clearance Then clean/spruce & reseal all the stuff that's going to be way easier on the stand. So, am I...

A leak down test will provide more information about the condition of the valves and piston rings/cyl walls. With the valve cover removed you will be able to see if there is sludge build up. I would also pull the oil pan to inspect and...

Hey all, hopefully an easy pair of questions... Background (this is not the question - just info): My 1991 FJ80 has an undiagnosed knock and power loss I want to sort out. Could be bad, but with close to 250k the engine, was planning a possible...

Went and picked up a gifted donor 3FE. What a great gift! Couple hours drive and an hour or two pulling off parts that he's planning to use in his 40 build. Not 100% certain about history, but he said the previous guy told him it was running...
