Hey Guys 91 80

Hey Guy,

I'm new on here. I have a 91 80 series cruiser I just bought. Does not leak and drives ok. I can hit 70mph on freeway but in town the car has very little power. I know your not going to win any races with this motor but believe it should be putting way more power out. What should I get done on the motor to make it have max power. The plan is slee 6inch with 37in tires and 5.29 gearing and bumpers. I'm not a motor expert and need help to make sure I maximize the money I have to make this thing work great! Please advise:)

programmers/chips/tuners?

I'm looking for testimonials about programmers/chips, and real gains. I'm not doing too bad on fuel with my 33x12.50's I'm getting nearly 12mpg on average, and haven't even deleted smog yet, but with climbing gas prices I'd welcome any contribution to better gas mileage, and performance that is cost effective. Also, I'm running a k&n air filter.

I know I'm not the record holder, but my 92 fj80 3fe has 289k on it. I'm hoping to get at least another 100k before the rebuikd, and things are looking good. Is it cheating since I have CNG?

91 Cruiser

I am currently in the steps of buying my first cruiser and she is a beauty . She’s a 1991 with only 111,200 miles and looks almost new. Only problem now is shipping her to me as we are over 2,000 miles apart.

Heres' a photo from the dealer

Project's - My wifer calls it the TAOTAOMOTNA project... I just acquired a couple of 90's less suspension, still in the planning, I want to put my 62's suspension on, but I was thinking about a front three link and a rear four link suspension. LMK if anybody has any ideas on how it could/should be done. BTW does anyone know of any good websites for OEM parts or similar - it's really hard to find parts out here on the island. LMK - TKS ------ TAOTAOMOTNA

Hi I'm new to the forum and new to FJ80s but not new to Toyotas.

I just picked this 1991 FJ80 off craigslist from someone who was already on this forum.
286k miles and runs pretty good, seems to stumble slightly on start up but runs great otherwise.
clean inside and out.
on to the pics!

Just got myself a 3fe series 80

Hello gents,

I just bought myself a grey import series 80 3fe and I'm glad I found this forum. I'm in South Africa where the 3fe didn't officially arrive but after reading about the 3fe on this site I was pretty pleased I fond this old rig.

And yes I will be asking plenty questions and hopefully I will add some valid Info from this part of the world.

Cheers

Gregory

first FJ

I suppose I'll go ahead and check in here, because I will be using the forums for info and time wasting.

Just got my first FJ80 last week, only taken one pic so far, but there will be many more to come. it's a 91 with 208k miles, previous owner put on an OME lift but knew nothing else about it. I got an offer to trade my 92 Buick Roadmaster Limited with 240k miles (which I got for $500 several years ago) for the Cruiser. I think I got a great deal, and the other guy seemed happy too.

Only mods so far have been retrofitting the AC to work with R-134a (blows so nice and cold) and getting it to pass emissions! I'm de-tinting the rear windows since they're all purple and flaky, then it just needs a good detailing so I can assess what will come next...

And don't hate, but in coming pics you will see it in the drive next to my beloved 08 Wrangler Unlimited. now off-roading will be a tough choice on which to take.

Frank

I bought Frank in December of last year, and figured I should check in. Frank is a 91 FJ80 with 152k on the clock.

So far, so good. I have gone on a few of trail rides and I can't believe how well it wheels mearly sotck (just 33 TSLs). The 3FE leaves a little to be desired for city driving, but the 33's seem to make the truck perform a little better at highway speeds.

The engine leaked about a quart of oil every 2 months, so I contacted Cruiser Dan (Thank you!) while I was visiting Albuquerque last week and picked up some gaskets at American Toyota. The valve cover gasket is in, and I cleaned and painted the cover while it was off. I am not looking forward to changing the oil pan and pushrod cover gaskets, but I hope to have a leak-free 3FE in not too long.

Anyway, I'm trying to have a little fun while I work out the maintenance issues. Future plans include: 2 inch lift (probably Ironman), winch, modified rear bumper, fabricate front bumper.
